If We Could Only Change (a poem of inspiration)

Updated on November 8, 2015
If only...
If only...
Where is the fresh air and soil that we all need to survive?
Where is the fresh air and soil that we all need to survive?
What awaits our future generations....
What awaits our future generations....
The beauty and needful plant life on which we all depend for our survival...
The beauty and needful plant life on which we all depend for our survival...
Our lives are truly so very fragile...
Our lives are truly so very fragile...
Every small creature depends on human kind for survival...
Every small creature depends on human kind for survival...
The airs that we share on this planet are very fragile and now at extreme risk...due to our negligence...
The airs that we share on this planet are very fragile and now at extreme risk...due to our negligence...
ALL CREATURES, GREAT AND SMALL UPON THIS EARTH DEPEND UPON OUR STEWARDSHIP FOR THE FUTURE...
ALL CREATURES, GREAT AND SMALL UPON THIS EARTH DEPEND UPON OUR STEWARDSHIP FOR THE FUTURE...

If only we could all but somehow to make a change,

Human kind's time here, now just to rearrange.

All returning back to the days, at the very beginning,

An unkind world of such hurt, now to be ending.

Making right of all that have been unjustly wronged,

Allowing others to feel now, as though they belonged.

What a wonderful world it would be, as a mending,

And of our most united messages, all to be sending.

If we could put and end to all of the unfair prejudice,

To remove all greediness, as that of avarice.

If we could truly be a united and strong nation,

No divisions, with its resulting harsh devastation.

If we could change common wasteful practices,

All the pollution, and make a new resolution.

No more dumping of those poisonous chemicals,

Into our air and water, this in all our dedication.

If we could just quit cutting down our tall trees,

The provider of the air that each one breathes.

Pumping out the oils that provide a bad source,

The disgusting waste that it usually leaves.

If we could prevent terrible devastating spills,

In the oceans, where precious life it all kills.

What a marvelous world this would then be,

And our pledges to the future, it so fulfills.

Just what do we owe for our own to inherit,

Has our time on this green earth had merit?

Have we provided a fine future and to share it,

Or have we just let it all go by, not to spare it.

What will our children later say of our preservation,

Will it be enough for their own accommodation?

Will they make our excuses, such as acclimatization,

Or deal with it correctly in a united proclamation?

THE FUTURE IS NOW...OUR RESPONSIBILITY...

What will be the legacy that we leave for our children's children...will it be one of hope?
What will be the legacy that we leave for our children's children...will it be one of hope?

It is our responsibility, but we suffer from the disease of short-sightedness, I'm afraid. Hopefully we'll see a doctor soon and get some medication. :)

Bill, I believe that if enough of us call attention to the matter of preservation of all's future and actions we may take, then there is hope. If we continue casually mentioning this when politically correct...then we all know the consequences. Remember the old show...in black and white,

      "Truth or Consequences"...whonu

Amen, whonu. We tore it down. We need to build the Earth back up. If only....

I am blessed to have a 5 year old enter the school system. For all it's faults it is ten times more geared toward these notions than 5 decades ago. It is the people. Teachers are awesome. I have hope. And my adult children have healthy respect and a desire. I have hope.

Yes if only we could change. Beautifully written with pictures to reflect its meaning. I wish I could turn back time, but since we as society cannot, why not start a positive change now and not look back and say if only.....?
