If You Were Here To Ask
Could I Burden You
Could I burden you with a question
About life and loss
On how someone could violate
A certain bond of trust
Look at me when I speak to you!
I am weary now our paths have crossed.
So I ask you again and again till my mind shuts off
Why are you here?
And what makes you cry?
What thoughts rip your eye lids open in the dead of night?
What are your greatest fears?
And do they seem familiar?
Do they reflect the goals you know you will never conquer?
God, why are we so lonely?
I think I need some company.
I think your largest creation became your biggest tragedy.
Why do your eyes look swollen?
Have you been weeping out your pains
When the rest of the world is quietly sleeping the night away?
It must feel awful
To once be on the top
You were the king of everything until the top flew off.
Does it make you feel horrible to say you made us in your image?
Then turn around and wince at the image of human savages?
You put so much thought into this world
As a father, tell me what is happening?
I can hear you screaming
“They don’t even believe in me!”
You’re far away,
What can I say, it seems a bit make believe
That in this vast galaxy
You seem to care for me.
And if you really are standing there,
If it is true that our paths have crossed,
Could I burden you with a question about life and loss?
