I'm counting on heaven! ( poem )

Updated on March 29, 2013
Source

When I was just a little girl,

my parents spoke of a place

that was out of this world.

It was far beyond the twinkling

stars,

over the moon and way past

Mars.

They told me it was more beautiful

than any place I had seen,

Where you can ride on a cloud

that taste like ice cream.

You won’t need a bike or a car to get around,

nor use your feet to ever touch the ground.

You’ll have beautiful wings of gold and white,

your spirit soars as you take flight.

All the desires of your heart will finally come true,

no more sadness, fear or feeling blue.

Your family and friends that have traveled to this place,

will be the first to greet you with their warm embrace.

You’ll share stories of days long since past,

marveling at how it all went by so fast.

You are more happier here than you’ve ever been,

in this land your real life truly begins.

All of life's questions will be made perfectly clear,

all the good that you do will bring you there.

To pet a lion and brush his mane,

All of the animals are perfectly tame.

To swim with the dolphins off the coast of the Key’s,

frolic with the monkey’s and dance in the trees.

You can take trips to places you had longed to see,

watching the sunsets in Africa is where I will be.

Soaring over mountains, lakes and streams,

fulfilling all of my lifelong dreams.

I’m counting on this heavenly place in the sky,

so, please don’t be sad when I say my last goodbye!

I'm happy here soaring and free;

Just look past the moon that's where you'll find me!

      wildove5,

Where can I get a ticket? This is absolutely beautiful! You really have a way of making heaven seem like a much desired location. This would be the perfect poem for teaching kids about heaven. So beautiful. Thank you! Thumbs up and beautiful!

      Cat,

When I was little I was so afraid of dying and would ask my dad often to tell me what heaven was like, everything I wrote in this poem, were his words to me all those years ago. I'd like this on my prayer card when I pass, it's all the things I plan on doing when I leave here! Thanks for the vote!

      wildove5,

I shared similar fears about death/dying when I was little, to the point that it kept me from sleeping at night. Unfortunately, no one offered the same story you were told; what a difference that could've made!

That would be beautiful on a prayer card; what a wonderful idea.

      Wildove5:

I am sorry we got off on the wrong foot. I know I can come on strong and I have no problem confronting issues head-on. Although I am a passionate man and have many deep convictions, sometimes I am momentarily blinded and miss a precious jewel in my path and for that I am sorry.

I just wanted to tell you that I enjoyed this stellar poem very much. In fact, it reminds me very much of the things I write about. As they say, "Brilliant minds think alike". I don't know, but perhaps we are two birds of a feather.

Anyway, voted up, interesting, awesome, useful and downright beautiful. Thank you for giving us all a lift and I will stop by for some more inspiration later on. I hope you don't mind.

May the God of Peace be with you - C.J. Sledgehammer

wildove, I read that you want this on your prayer card, when you die.

Since this is based on the beautiful words of comfort from your Father,

I'm sure it had great meaning to you.

Have you made it down to visit your father, yet?

We had a cool week, but it is going to be in the 80's next week.

Thank you for sharing this poem with us.

      DJ.

No worries Cj, my father also told me that forgiveness will earn me my wings as well! I understand the passionate mind when it comes to our own personal morales and values and while I am far from perfect, I try my best, sometimes I succeed and sometimes I fail! I'm a work in progress!!! Thanks for the kind words, I really do appreciate it!!

Dj, My father has always been my rock! Growing up he was the only one who could calm my fears. He is so good at it that in the twenty-second hour of labor with my daughter I cried for my daddy, it took tears and begging for the doctor to finally agree to let my father come up to my room to see me. It was funny though, he calmed me down pretty good then screamed at the doctor and told her to " Get that baby out of her now!" After his demand they quickly sent me bed and all to the OR for a C-section. He is truly my Hero! I haven't been yet to see him, he started working again so where still trying to work out our schedules, but I hope to visit soon! Thanks for the kind words!

Your very welcome Faith. It's strange how when you get older your fear of dying goes away and you start thinking about your next journey; never in my wildest dreams did I ever think I would be writing about spending time in heaven. Fact is when I was little I was so afraid of dying that my father gave me a small bible to place under my pillow to ease my fears, now forty years later and I'm finally not afraid, well, maybe just a little, but I am looking forward to seeing a few people and of course my furry friends! Thanks for stopping by and God bless!

      Hey, that was wonderful!

      I will meet you there,

Where the rays from God's light flows through your hair,

Let us all pray that we arrive there real soon,

      to that Glorious place,

      just past the moon...

All see you in the rapture. God bless you and all of your followers too. I'll be praying for you!
