I'mKar'n Wins Hub Of The Day

Updated on October 27, 2012
Thank You, Thank You Very Much!
Thank You, Thank You Very Much!

I'mKar'n Wins Hub Of The Day

Now that I've got your attention - by hook or by crook as they say,

Gather round, press even closer,

There's a momentous truth to convey!

Offended by words such as penis and pap smear? Or a poem with a hint of risque?

This I can promise with confidence full,

I'll NEVER win Hub of The Day!

Sex and Crime and Politics - Social Issues, Men, The Psyche,

The 'Higher-Ups' at Hub,

Make it quite clear they don't like me!

Spanked hard for 'Adult Content' - feeling like lowly Hub-scum,

Who knew it's better to target,

The masses who still suck their thumb!

Cutting off all revenue - refusing any links?

Censorship takes root,

In the time it takes to blink!

The sad truth is this author - doing her best to wake the Sheeple,

Will never quite be 'beige' enough,

To satisfy those people!

Has time arrived to pack Hub-bags? Leave my Hub-buds all behind?

Such heart and soul and talent?

I'm rather disinclined!

So instead I'll change my style - to one that REALLY scores:

Tips on Types of Wallpaper,

And Mac-Tacking your Drawers!

Sigh...

Exactly!
Exactly!

I have dealt with m share of censorship from this site and others. My poetry challenge about child abuse was unpublished for being to dark to have advertisements on. I had to remove advertising to allow it to be published, and this Hub has been my most popular one on HubPages. I guess rules are rules and every site has them, so we either accept it or try to create our own site where these things are acceptable.

Oh boy did you sucker punch me with the title of your article. I really thought you were named "Hub of the Day," you rascally rabbit. You can't leave us because you are the shining ray of sunshine so many of your followers look for. Me thinks perhaps you have some lingering residuals of the flu and that this too will pass. I told you before Ms. L. your poetry is the only poetry I read. Just imagine how culturally deficient I would be without you around to entertain my mind.

. . . before even beginning to read the very first word of text, you communicate volumes with that look - your photo reveals a lady who knows something the reader doesn't know, there is a smile in your eyes, a 'come here' but 'watch your step' in a single look.

LOL. Love it! Where to start. Your pic and that button are great. They both made me smile. Your sarcasm and rapier wit are second to none...assuming mine aren't in contention. (sample). "Spanked hard for Adult Content, feeling like lowly Hub-scum...Who knew its best to target, the masses who still suck their thumb!" Lol. My favorite. You're the furthest thing from "beige" I've ever known. Always fly your colors proudly. If the powers that be don't like it...they must be color blind. You CAN'T leave...or Dennis will cry and lose all his poetic culture. Correct D? And if its any consolation...you'll always be my "Hubba-Hubba of the Day". I adore you and your unique writing talent.

Leslie - Could we ever swap stories! lol Let me say the most outrageous display (of several) I've experienced was because of two words listed in my hub. The sentence was, ".... just get off my case." The words noted were "get off", because they were a sexual phrase. Sad, but I've kept the email to prove it.

I applaude the you thats you, the authenticity of a spirit which begs no quarter and refuses a surrender meant to steal the fingerprints from our soul and leave them then, to wallow in commonality and sterility.

BTW, such a mischievious look in the photo. I'm sure it wasn't meant to tease the gods which hover over your rebellion. On second thought, of course it is. Authenticity is all we have as writers, indeed, it belongs to those who squeeze from moments the life we were meant to live.

Leslie.. this is an absolute scream! I love your sense of humour but more importantly your clever word crafting and the daring message. I -like you rather not be beige... I write about what interests me and sparks my synapses rather than pander to Google Gods. I feel hubpages maybe missing a trick by not fostering creativity along with whatever sells as the two can co-rexist and co-create. I love this poem, this should be an 'anthem' for all creative souls being shackled by Censorship.

I definitely wouldn't want to be one of the 'sheeple'. Awesome!

Brilliantly written. Wonderful wit! I guess we all write here for different reasons, using different styles to get our message out and have our voices heard. What I find is that one man's rules may turn out to be another man's oppression. I imagine we each need know our own tolerance level. Voted up.

Hi Imkarn. Sorry about the ix; it won't happen again.

And no, I wasn't talking about a Nobel. An Ig Nobel is official recognition for work that's extremely unlikely to advance scientific knowledge, or to have any practical applications whatsoever. But the presenters are actual Nobel Laureates.

If I remember correctly, there was an Ig awarded for a study on the effect of whale poo on Global Warming. The Igs are not meant to be taken seriously.

TRULY AWESOME! Voted UP and across the board. Why?.....

This is the kind of stuff that needs to be written. That begs to be written. Sure, I appreciate a concise "how to" article or a good craft project. But they are superficial. YOUR HUBS are the kind that stimulate the mind, the conscience, the ego, the very fiber of who we are and what we stand for. Sure, they can sometimes be UMCOMFORTABE TO READ. this is GOOD. It means it has stirred up something in the reader. The worst thing to do is to turn away from that or shun that. The best thing to do is to examine it. To discuss it....

You get the world thinking, feeling, discussing. You got GUTS for doing it! You have inspired me to come out of my silly little shell.... Don't ever stop!

and p.s. this is a great little ditty. fun to read. greath rythm. :)

I suppose you must be telling Carol all the time how amazing you are, why are you so mean to her?

I see that you have become responsible for Carol becoming a celebrity here on hub pages. Her eloquence, although confined by the brevity of a one liner, has obviously set her on a road for hub-land immortality. I've little doubt that you have inadvertently contributed to her unfolding popularity and consequently, I believe her escalating notoriety will cause her to reflect upon her rise from unknown and invisible to candidate for HOTD. Are one liners qualified? I hope so. It would be a shame for so griping a literary indictment to simply die in a comment box. Then again, comment boxes are a much easier place to vanish in obscurity than in an actual hub. I can only hope that she will direct us to a hub so that our ignorance regarding "amazing" can be rectified.

I for one am her newest fan; so many just come to praise, but Carol, Carol comes to unpraise. What an original idea. She is "amazing".

Silly me - i should have APOLOGIZED to poor carol - for offending her in this manner and step back into anonymity - where SHE lives - and where i would be safe from her kind - but obviously envious of all leslies, marias, marties, mickeys...etc..

I can not help to chime in about "Carol's" comment.... Everyone is entitled to an opinion. BUT they are not entitled to belittle others with it.If Carol wants to express her opinion she could at least do it in a constructive way. It is ignorant and immature to simply criticize for the sake of doing it.... I happen to like Leslie's work very much. Sometimes the style might be a bit too abrasive for my liking, but I always appreciate the message and the Lady behind it.... Carol, you should learn to express yourself as an educated adult. Rather than throwing a stone and running away, engage your opponent. You will be a better person for it.

LESLIE - keep doing what you do!

    • MickeySr profile image

. . . I would just like to, if I may, be clear about this; I am not one who thinks we ought not share what we don't like about something, that we should only praise or keep quite about our opinion. To me, honest critical thinking will result in not liking everything that crosses your path, plain & simple - and I think as adults we are boneheads to assume everything we do will be adored by all . . . so, to me, expressing that you don't really like or 'get' something someone else likes or 'gets', or has done, is fine. I think The Eagles are lame and I think "Pretty Woman" is crap - and everybody likes The Eagles and "Pretty Woman" . . . I am very familiar with people not agreeing with me or liking just what I like, and I can handle that.

My problem with 'Carol' is that she didn't address anything she disagreed with or didn't like, she just judged another's heart announcing Leslie to be both arrogant and unamazing . . . no explanation, no suggestion, no anything but a personal insult. And, I wonder if the great list of those praising this hub that followed after this hub isn't what nudged 'Carol' to declare the author is not so amazing . . . I have a good number of hubs that I was/am quite pleased with that have few comments, yet I see some hubs that I count to be so-so at best collect all manner of praise - that can be frustrating, I understand that, but to sling personal insults at someone, from the shadows, who you (we assume) don't actually know, because everyone else likes what they do, is an ugly kind of bullying . . . and I personally, have always had little tolerance for punks who get something out of trying to harm others.

Like I said, I just wanted to be clear.

P.S. ~ I don't think Carol even read the text of your hub, otherwise she would have gotten the joke---well, maybe not. Probably not.

I left for various reasons; ennui and laziness not least among them. lol

And I don't like posting poetry because of internet thieves and plagiarists.

It got to the point that I spent my last months on here just occasionally commenting on random hubs and I saw no point in that.

Besides, my hubs were pedestrian at best and not the stuff of real writers, so I figured there was no point in continuing the charade.

I prefer commenting anyway; it's way more fun. I still get to compliment good work and poo-poo the crap. And the occasional stroll as a troll on some conservative nit-wit's comment thread is always good for a laugh or two---their head imploding when the unwelcome weight of logic meets the cozy vacuum inside. lol

'How' was easy. I merely notified them with my intentions and they e-mailed me with a questionnaire to make sure I didn't leave because of them, which I didn't. I informed them it was for personal reasons.

And 'where' was from my lair at the penthouse. Ol' Hef needed me to babysit a while, and man, were they babes! Ran out of Viagra in one weekend.

Ended up on a gurney rolling to the ER under a sheet that looked like a tent when viewed from the side---if ya know what I mean. :P

      So, who needs HubPages, write...errr...right?

I'm so glad my earlier follow of you & your kind follow of me have led me to come over and browse your amazing, authentic hubs, Leslie.

Authenticity is a major trait to be honored and respected, in my book, y'know. It means being true to oneself, whether or not others approve or applaud. It's the real 'real' - whether or not The Velveteen Rabbit' found his reality in that way! People I know who are r-e-a-l have found it by holding true to themselves in trying circumstances, among critics and detractors.

I shoulda known I'd like you since so many of my favoritest people on HP hold you in high regard - and they're authentic folks with a good eye for 'real'.

This hub is hilarious! I must tell you that I get only reluctant, at best, recognition, if any, from the powers-that-be; -- but people seem to enjoy my stuff. Isn't that what a writer most craves? (wink) -- (or - - maybe something else that powers-that-be don't even have to offer).

Variety is the spice and you're a one-woman spice collection! Hugs.

Hi, Leslie! Hope it's a good day for you!

I got weary of tracking new hubs of those I follow by email notifications so when I know I've time to visit some of them, I just go to "My Account", click "Following", then "Hubbers You Follow" - where one can select to view all alphabetically or click "recent hubs" which lists them by most recent hubs, which lists them even just minutes after they've published their latest, not after the wait for email notification. They're ALL listed there, too, with how many hours ago each of their hubs was published, so it's easy to choose which ones to view first and to prioritize as one chooses. We can't always go to everyone's latest hubs and some do look more enticing than others, etc. Once at their sites, it's simple to see the next most recent hubs of that hubber on their profile pages.

And I still get the list of latest hubs via email; - but each email is only for that day's publications. Unless I kept up with them faithfully every day, - I'd need to open each daily email and go back and forth from it to visit each individual hub! This other way, the list of the most recent can be kept open while visiting their hubs.

Anyway - I like the new profiles' way of listing either the "active" hubs - or if one chooses, all their own hubs, including the 'sleeping' ones right there. The way I operate: not trying for 'hits', not using 'key words' to get hits and some possible paltry pay, - well, frankly some of my best stuff is 'sleeping'! haha. Why should I hide them because Google may not prefer my topics and their random attendance? Shrug. :-)

Anyway, you can visit any of my hubs anytime you've time & inclination! With 189 (to date) from which to choose, you'll surely always find one that's 'new' to you!

Hey there! I have to tell you how much I loved my feedback from you on one of my hubs! / You are such an awesome gal...glad we are friends!!! Now, I have read this piece...really like how you put your words together into a poem. It is so much easier to express yourself this way. Your words and situation...I know what you are talking about, for real! I just came back from a three month hiatis. I was going through a little of what you said here, a little bit of stuff in life too. I deleted my HP account and only saved a few hubs. I needed a break! / If I could suggest...If you go to take a break, don't delete your work. Also, stay in contact with our HP friends on FB...It was great way to stay connected and I did not read or promote their work at all...learned more about them while socializing. I know I am acting a little serious here...sorry . But time off was rewarding. /Don't filter yourself for anyone! However, you can still push their boundaries :)

It looks like yours truly is never winning Hub of the Day either--I just got spanked for adult content myself!

I was irritated, but re-reading this poem made me laugh and feel better about the whole issue.

Oh well, the URL of the banned hub is now on my profile. I just removed it & republished it on my own blog :)

Well I am officially voting this hub of the day! lol For those of us...(mainly me) who are quite frankly shy and totally awkward in writing adult content.... need friends (like you) who are somewhat risque at times..How boring would this world be if we all walked to a hum drum! Just a minute ago I read where you commented about Italian buns on my hub...How did my mind go from eating delicious buns to thinking of men with Italian buns ...only you ...I laughed so hard...If I find myself wanting to step on the wild side I am calling you girlfriend for some good tips! Love this hub, made me smile BIG!

Up, Funny, and Interesting. I have heard of writers and filmmakers who alternate between saying what they want and saying what makes money. I imagine that your wit would make for entertaining reviews. I have not yet read enough of your hubs to know if you write product, book, movie, and trends reviews already. And writers for ages have fooled censors and made wry jabs by saying one thing that everyone knows means another. (The Pete Seeger song Big Muddy comes to mind, along with many instances in songs and plays of double entendre, innuendo, and parody.) Anyway, I hope you continue for a long time to write witty hubs.

    • Nellieanna profile image

Nellieanna Hay 4 years ago from TEXAS

Y'know, I wrote an enormous bulk of my poetry as my own coded diary partly-precisely to keep it from being really understood & misused by my oppressor then. If he did read them, he didn't 'get' them - which was partially by design. The only times he rose up in protest to them was just as his general paranoia, 'just in case' there was something in 'em incriminating! After a couple of ritual poetry burnings, though, I learned to keep hand-written backup copies, too!

Since I'm publishing many of those written back then in my hubs now, -and, to date, haven't been brought to the gallows for content (though I've never received a HOTD, either), probably the same principle of being abstruse, has provided 'cover' here, too. ho-hum. . . .

But truth is, I just plain-ole-don't-care-a-fig! Shrug. Nor should you, which obviously you know and don't!

If one isn't writing what is 'in there' or if one is just writing to meet someone else's criteria, results are nothing above mediocre, regardless how many honors they win from those 'someone elses'! An old TV commercial about a really great spaghetti sauce emphasized what's "IN THERE". I've always applied that phrase to the good and real stuff inside in other ways.

Even if beige is one's writing color, - it ought to be genuine and authentically beige! If one's true heart is modest or chaste, then that should permeate whatever one honestly expresses. It's likely that we're all a mixture & have many authentic facets on which to call. But faking it in any direction is just shallow, shabby and pitiful.

If a naturally beige writer tried to mimic your fiery fury and audacity, it would just come off as a mediocre attempt, lacking the trait of either color or authenticity.

Everyone's taste may or may not embrace even the most authentic of styles, but no one genuinely responds to hollow faking at any level. What else can one BE except what one IS? That's the joy of living in a world of differences and delightful surprises!

And you, my dear, are one of the best representatives of those; - well-expressed, valuable, exciting, entertaining and educational!

Your wisdom is borne from the scars left by the fire of life -and man - you've walked through it!

You're a dear. I didn't mean to be upsetting! Actually, I lived in careful caution. I pitied him then more than myself. Bullies are cowards - pitiful creatures. Don't you agree?

In any case, there's no question that the experience (18 years of it) honed my clarity. It was amazing and gratifying how uprightly I walked through it. Another similarity of soul, I'll bet! :-)

I don't know what it is about the title of this hub... but it fooled me again... for a second I really thought you won HOTD even though I see I read it before... I should know better because I've been looking at what wins lately and there is not one so far that I would even read. Apparently there is a formula, beginning criteria appears to be 'blah' general, helpful in a topic no one really cares about... or maybe, it's just me... who worries about things like the dumbing down of America, dirty tricks to keep people from voting, Constitutional reinterpretations... loss of teachers and police, none of which is ever even hinted at on hub of the day. Keep the Glint in your eye and the power in your pen, amazing girl. Sharing.

Don't let "them" chase you away, Leslie....Those of us who appreciate your wit and ability to "tell it like it is" would be bereft to lose you. You have only to look at all the comments this hub (and your others) get to realize you have a strong fan club, even if the HP powers-that-be don't allow you to profit from your writing.

I, too, like that photo of you with the devilish grin! Give 'em hell, Leslie!

I just now tracked back up this lengthy comments thread & discovered the "carol"entity who dropped by, dropped a little anal deposit and as quickly vanished. The first clue of its anal nature was that it prefaced its own remark with "you think . . ." and ended with ". . . don't you?" (the content in between is useless, being purely its opinion) - - Egads! Not another self-proclaimed mindreader arises with limited vocabulary, lacking individual ideas or thoughts, other than stated by the final judgmental, "You're not." Even as an opinion, it just lacks pizzazz, let alone lacking any class or aura of authority. Effective? Not! Plus it's not honestly stated as an opinion, but as though it KNEW anything about its object/subject and it assumes its psuedo-knowledge somehow supersedes and outweighs all others, including the many here who really do know a bit about the subject of it, Leslie!

I feel mostly pity for this poor soul. If only it would identify itself, we could all form a circle of love around it, perhaps even to help it feel better or at least feel less need to be sociopathetic.

      Sigh.

But OK - - I must agree with Alan, though: - - what we've done about it is to give much bright spotlight on it and to embue a measure of undeserved attention and a 15 min. timeframe of notorious fame to it. It's really not worth the time & attention, is it? Those I've known with a similar bent weren't, at any rate; and usually it's been more satisfying to let them stew in their own juices with their own foolish words hanging in the air to describe themselves! But sometimes, a bit of exposure for such shabby performances seems just too tempting, regardless of the colossal lack of personal or general rewards to be derived from wielding the heavy spotlight upon it! But - It's like any other temptation, compulsion - or, heaven forbid - addiction! Tempting!

(And this whole comment of mine falls into that category of futility! - -And, yeah - I was tempted to express my reaction, especially in behalf of my dear Leslie, not that she NEEDS champions!! Her own records and voice speak very well for themselves.)

Love you all - - - you're top-notch and loveable whether we are always in agreement or not! We do agree n that! :-)
