In A World Of Fire

Updated on March 19, 2014

Who Has The Strongest Flame ?

Just when you thought things were easy

They got even harder

In work where I get to do my job proficiently

I was told to train a new hiree

What is it that makes young people cocky and so stubburn ?

What right do they have to be so obnoxious ?

Can't they see we are there to help ?

Never in my life have I been so rude

Not to listen to someone who is my teacher

I have always given my full respect and attention

I may have had ideas to do things differently

There is a proper way to ask if I could do it this way

If the answer was no

That was the end of that discussion no questions asked

I may of still believed I had a better way

I would keep it in my hat so to speak

Until I learned more and at a later date

I would approach the subject with more information

Again asking if I could do it different

Waiting to see their response

I would wait until I put my time in any job

Then after years I would of earned the opportunity to do like I wanted

No questions asked

I paid my dues

The young fellow would not listen

Claimed to know it all

How could he know what to do ?

Every job is different

If he would just listen

There could be something for him to learn

The new employee was eager and enthusiastic

For three days

Now he is already complaining and trying to find short cuts

I reminded him this is not how we do things

He became disinterested and distant

In a fog

I repeated myself

He continued to do his job at his own pace and manner

Later he told me

Let me do my work

I know what I am doing

When clearly he doesn't have a clue

Now it's been two weeks and he has already said

I'm tired I want to leave early

I'm bored

I didn't tell him how to do something

When I clearly have

He said I would of remembered that

I said remember you said you knew how to do it

Later a manager has actually approached me

He continued to say the new employee said he was talked down to

Which is ridiculous

He is being told what to do so he can learn the right way

Within two weeks how can so many things be different

I have never seen someone disrupt and cause so much trouble

Well here is to better days and new thoughts

I will keep an open mind and try to learn something from this too

For starters....

Everyone is different and it makes life so more exciting

I don't know what tomorrow will bring but I am sure I never could of imagined it

Gypsy Rose Lee Now they only want to do something different as long as they get more pay. What a sad way to live. I am proud to say I do a good job and the best of my ability all the time. If I make a mistake and I have made my fair share over the years I own up to it correct the problem the best I can and move on. Live and learn. Money was never my biggest factor it will come in time. There is no keeping a good man down. I am still hopeful he will turn around. Only time will tell. Thank you for reading and sharing.

I think more and more youth are showing less respect and I just don't understand what has come into their minds. Way back when we were always eager to learn and enjoyed doing different tasks.

Jodah They don't understand how important team work, positive attitude and the reward is doing a good job. It's if I talk a different language. They ask often to go to the bathroom and stroll back as if they own the place. No sense of urgency or care about customers. Without customers we all wouldn't have jobs. I use to think it was lack of work experience but now I think they are selfish and self centered. You are so right. Thank you for reading and helping me understand even more.

I can understand your frustration. I have experienced a similar situation before Dream On. Sometimes the youth show little respect for their senior workers and their thoughts are solely on working higher up the ladder with as little work as possible. Good hub.

kerlunf74 They want everything now. No patience. I keep thinking he will change and have tried to think of many ways to explain the same thing. Only time will tell if he changes or maybe this is only temporary and he bigger and better plans for something greater. I wish him good luck and always the best. A different world but some core values should always stay the same. You are here to do a job and should do the job whatever it is to the best of your ability. End of story. Thank you for your comment and I am so glad to see other points of view.

This seem to be a common issue among the young people today. I always worked on and did what I was told to at my first jobs. I still do... At some point it is great to question things and to give feedback, but in some situations it is not. And it is not OK to be lazy and try to avoid work to be done.
