Rasma Raister’s and the Poetry of Romantic, Aesthetic and Sublime Love - A Belated Birthday Offering
Smiles Do it Every Time
Smiles do it every time,
they can make any day special.
Never forget to smile,
first thing in the morning
and take that smile
to bed with you at night.- Rasma Raisters.
Daybreak approaches and I offer gratitude. I’m grateful to the serene stillness of the morn; the chirping of birds and the fragrance of spring flowers; most of all I’m grateful to Love. It is yet another day and the hustle and bustle of life has not started and so I sit in prayer, offering salutations to my Lord.
I have a lot to be thankful for! After all, I’m alive and the Beloved, in Her sweet mercy, has been more than compassionate towards me. She has given me food, shelter, warmth, security, air and water; She has given me friends, well-wishers and admirers.
He has given me the woman who sacrificed everything for her seven wonderful children; as well as my own family and He has given me the poetry of Rasma Raisters.
Today I have faith, hope and charity, together with many of the abundant gifts of God, but the greatest of all is Love. Light is synonymous with Love and Love is a disguised form of Light, the one that illumines my darkness.
Love is the gentleness of the breeze on a cool spring morning, the cute smile on the face of the 3-yr old; Love is the Light that sparkles when we serve and the art of lovers penning their thoughts with sweetness, gentleness, wisdom and above all charm. This brings me to the joy and beauty, of Rasma Raisters work.
Her sublime pieces are immortal and resonate in the Hearts of God-lovers, paramours and families alike. She writes about passion, romance and some expositions on great artists, but above all, her joy and vibrancy seem to follow that strong pull, taught to her, by her parents search for freedom in the arts; the pull of Love.
She speaks of the Heart, that zone that weaves its way in and out of her beautiful pages, inspiring hope; expressing despair, longing, beauty and union, or the bliss which comes from the experience of it all. Consider this affectionate couplet:
“Kisses are always a treat
and holding hands warms the soul.” – Rasma Raisters.
Or the sublime piece:
“Give me the golden key to your heart
So that I can see the inner glow of your soul
From there I know radiates
Your love for me.” – Rasma Raisters.
Light and Beauty
This Hub moved the great writer, motivator, life-coach and family man William D Holland, a.k.a. Billybuc, to say:
“… as always, your poetry is beautiful. Everlasting love....what a great concept, and when we find that one person, what a great feeling..!”
Shiningirisheyes was obviously very touched by her work, as this loving sentiment expressed:
. “From the glorious beginning of the journey to the amazing end, you weave a beautiful poem. I only hope to know this level of love someday.”
Born in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, N.Y., Rasma Raisters, a.k.a., Gypsy Rose Lee, studied at the Brooklyn Campus of Long Island University and obtained a degree in Marketing. Again, she went to Brooklyn College, City University of New York. She taught English as a private tutor, and perhaps her love for this literary subject as well as the influence of her father Eriks Raisters back in Latvia, modelled and shaped her life.
She now lives in Riga, Latvia, in a house in the suburbs with her husband Martin and their wonderful cat, Sid. Gypsy is very active online, and her two greatest passions are writing and poetry. She loves all animals, especially cats and share a great feel for nature and its scenery, basking in the colours and pageantry of life. Her devotion to God is highlighted in her works. (the above two paragraphs are paraphrased from Rasma’s profile on Hub Pages with a tiny bit from LinkedIn)
The quest for Love matures and strengthen us, and we all have the capacity to be a delegate for the Supreme. This Rasma does exceptionally well. Speaking in 1 Corinthians, 13: 4-8, Paul says:
“Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrong-doing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, and endures all things. Love never ends.”
And this soothing piece from Ephesians 4: 2-3:
“With all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.”
One suspects that Rasma reflects the beauty and simplicity of these lofty pieces:
"Spring oh glorious spring
Melting away the winter blues
Rivers and lakes from the snow
Shining in the sun."- Rasma Raisters.
The Gift of Love by Rumi
Speaking on Love, the great mystic Rumi says:
“Both Light and shadow are the dance of Love.
Love has no cause, it is the astrolabe of God’s secrets.
Lover and loving are inseparable and timeless.
Although I may try to describe Love,
When I experience it, I am speechless.
Although I may try to write about Love,
I am rendered helpless.
My pen breaks, and the paper slips away,
To that ineffable place where Lover, loving and Love are one.
Every moment is made glorious, by the Light of Love.”- Jalal Uddin Mohammed Rumi
Let me end this belated celebration of Rasma’s birthday tribute on Love with my own humble and loving dedication to her Spirit:
Love Kissed My Core With Its Effulgence. A Free Verse Sonnet.
Love kissed my core with Its effulgence;
I was stunned by a spectacle of blazing Lights.
She soaked up my toxins like antidotes,
Tongue darting in and out like snakes.
Only it was not venom, and my Soul cried,
From the immeasurable sweetness of Her Bliss.
Redbreasts, cockatiels and canaries,
Augmented their melodies as one,
All chanting ineffable concertos in my Heart.
I swooned inebriated, knowing ‘twas not wine,
But a quintessence of unspoken grandeur in my Spirit.
I saw the mystic aura of the Cosmos,
Hanging together like a ray of burning lanterns,
Unfolding the Source of my existence, to grant me Peace.
