In Lack of Defense
Daddy hurt me, Mommy, and I tell you now
Male ego is wanton, and karma will not endow
Trust and a future of excuses and lack of reason
Time is of the essence in any life or season.
His power is lost to those who have strength
Even though Southern values will go to any length
To preserve his destruction and sullen critique
As his backhand is strong due to muscular physique.
Raised in an old fashioned and headstrong sense,
Used to coverups, and brainwashing is a sad consequence.
That little girl who relied on right over might
Cannot fully understand her life, now contrite.
Yet she will stand by any man wrong or right
Without even realizing her own shallow plight.
She just cannot see that her life, cast with doubt
Sooner or later will bite her in life throughout.
Sell your sad loyalty to the highest bidder
But think hard and fast before you consider
What impact it has on an innocent party
Don’t sell your soul for a righteous cup of coffee.
Lie awake nights and play over what you’ve done
And remember your own devils can’t be outrun.
So think twice before you strike, hold your tongue
Don’t sell anyone out just to belong.
Just because mother did what you could see
Don’t become her as a self-appointee.
Yes, stand by your man for the right reasons
Not for the sake of betrayal or impudent treason.
Friends will see through your imminent ruse
And cast you aside without any clues.
So hear me now, and do take offense
For your own fiery ways in lack of defense.
