In Loving Memory Poems for a Man and Woman of God

Updated on July 2, 2014

These poetic tributes were inspired by the life and spirit of Min. Enid Thompson (Mama T) mother of my sister-friend and co-director in youth ministry, Judith Thompson; and the life and spirit of Deacon Leon Skates, members of my first home church, First Church of God, Far Rockaway. This godly woman and man impacted my life greatly are forever remembered with love. I thank God for blessing my life with their presence and godly example of love in action.

In memory of a godly woman

A Loving Mother, who made countless unconditional sacrifices
that were necessary to meet
whatever the presenting need;

She set the standard and
became a visual example
for herself and all of her
children to succeed.

A Godly Woman, who was
generous in heart and soul,
and whose home was always
an open, warm and
wonderful place to be.

We studied God’s word,
ate great food, enjoying
much fun and fellowship
with this beloved mother
while creating sweet
fond memories.

An Anointed Sister in Christ,
serving God to her fullest potential;
she was a committed woman of
strength, faith and responsibility.

She touched many lives,
not only within her own
inner family circle,
but extended beyond
to reach out into the community.

In memory of a godly man

In memory of a godly man

A man of faith and a
reflection of God’s truth,
he was warm and loving
with a genuine smile.

The loss of his physical
presence on earth,
I will surely miss
for quite a while.

But in his absence from the body,
he is present with the Lord;
No more pain, sickness or worries,
he and the Trinity are in one accord.

So, while we take the time
to weep and mourn,
let us not tarry in this state too long;

Let’s celebrate his life and
his rejoicing with the angels
in the glory of God,
singing heavenly songs.

Be blessed,

Jo Anne Meekins

      Hi Helen! Thank you. However, these poems are not about my parents at all. They are about two people from one of my former church homes, Mama T (Enid Thompson) and Bro. Skates. They were not related to me or each other, but in a sense spiritual parents, instrumental in my growth. I guess need to go back and add that info. I wrote a lot of poems (words of comfort) and shared at home going services of family and church memebers. I have a section of them in my book of inspirational poetry for all occasions(On Solid Ground). God bless you and thanks for reading and commenting.
