Montana winds......poetry

Updated on June 30, 2014

I could write of the horses that dominate
this big sky culture
Or the elk at evenings ridgeline
the raven
the eagle
or the vulture

But tonight I write of friendship of love
of attraction
of place
of home
Once you visit Montana for good
you'll not
ever feel alone

And a secret I'll divulge only to a very few
"Deep Canyon"
owns my heart
In all of life before this day
and from beginning
from the start

Once you go home to the ranch
even once
your heart will stay right there
From up along the coulee
or the wind gap
where you stand alone and stare

Chuck and Sharon are my family
they had a dream awhile ago
Of horses of mountains
and of trails
these places
that only they could know

They decided to share that home with us
what hearts they have
They have hearts of pure golden
and souls the Montana winds
have freed

If I never see that ranch again I'll know
one thing
that's pure
The Montana winds have set me free
and set me free
for sure

Hi Ed. How do you do it? Montana, I have never been but I have always loved the name, so evocative and you have captured it beautifully here,

      Voted up.
