In One Evening We See So Much More Than What Meets The Eye

Updated on December 4, 2013

Observe Closely

It's lunch time

Where do all the people come from

It is like a ritual

Comfortably strolling along

As if they had signed up for a membership and finally after years of waiting got to come in and enjoy

They have come to experience their favorite past time

Where young and old people bond

Children bring their playful boundless energy and inquisitive minds

A little boy in blue

Is grabbing at his mothers arm

Calling her name

Mom,mom as he says it impatiently

The two parents next to the boy continue to talk

Paying no attention

Continuing the conversation without skipping one beat

Now the mother of the child

Stares down into her sons eyes

Then he suddenly realizes

Now is not the time and it can wait

As if he knows that something bad will happen

So he walks away with such a bewildered look

Plans unfold as if everyone followed a diagram

Some in for just a quick bite

Other people in for a sit down lunch

Time is temporarily out of order

It has little or no importance

As if the world had endless time

Surrounded by a joyful social atmosphere

Relaxed and uninhibited by the day to day fears

The music overhead sets the tone

For a peaceful mood

Then when the meal is done

Reality comes creeping in

Back to business at hand

As workers return to their jobs

Parents shuffle their children into their cars

Making sure their seat belts are buckled

Elderly couples who brace each other

By walking arm and arm

Head back home

Where they spend most of their day

Even the two lovers who came in holding hands constantly making googly eyes at each other

Picked up the pace

As they quickly got in their car and sped away

Ending with three old ladies

Each carrying their pocketbooks tightly

Two under their arm holding their black pocketbooks firm

The other one carrying her light brown one draped over her shoulder

They are all heading out the door

I can only hope the rest of their day

Goes as nice as it has

God willingly without a hitch

Gypsy Rose Lee I honestly believe I can learn how to tune into the world and see deeper into any situation. Extracting the good and make it come alive. Thanks so much.
