In Search of Grace-The Longing
This is a poem that I wrote about my search for grace in my middle-age. I am keeping the original poem here and my rewrite from 2019. A lot of time has passed between these two versions of this piece. I hope you enjoy both.
Rewrite in 2019
I know now
that longing is unsated hunger
rumbling in a cavernous cubicle
a heart, a stomach,
they can each hunger
world and sky meet
as I hold myself open
gratitude flowing like
a delta.
I long to hold myself open
long enough
deeply enough
to feel day's promise awaken
Blow gently upon this hunger
let breath calm the soft pine down
embolden my voice
harrow the pathway
so that I may follow with god's kiss
and rest easily.

Original write From 2011
i long again for the gratitude of a soul
holding its heart open
to world and sky-
i long again to feel the promise of the day
awaken me -
i call to those who know my path
those who have traversed
the softness of pine down
and ask that they blow gently
upon the fervency of strained heart
to embolden voice and harrow the pathway
so that I may follow with the kiss
of godhead upon my heart-
