In Search of a Subject

Updated on March 8, 2011

In kindest candor

a few words to page

a recent expression caught my eye

a person in search

of something to say

seeking suggested topics

or some story to encode

perhaps sincere,

who knows or cares?

it won't stand

the pen won't bend that way

people less so

readers demand that the poet do with his or her own soul

the grunt work of forming life into verse

the performance here

a poet's curse

to see things new

expressing them without care

breathing them out on page

sounding like no one

being like nothing

to all this a weight

density to thought

that causes one to consider

not discarding due to obscurity

tis hard and difficult

in my self interest turn aside

go no further

leave it to those who are naturals

did I say that?

well anyway perhaps I can be of some help

see life in a cube

not a page

stack the likenesses

compile the page

learn the words

what they really mean

what to say.

Know yourself and to that be true

but bow to the fact

there are those mightier then you

and write afresh the substance of your soul

see the world through conscious optics

pick up your pen

lol there is no sense humbling a man unless you know how to restore him to efforts that will better his or her second effort.

Beautiful, and I shall vote it so. "there are those mightier than you" a line that captures me, humbles me and then turns me loose, to write again.

With such friends and fellows as you dear hillrider and precious Malin I may soon need to find a whole to let some of the excessive ego build up out of my skull. That being said, I am blessed to have you to urge me on.

You line, "And write afresh the substance of your soul". I believe that is what most of us do...Of course there will always be Critics, who are not always as Talented as the writer...who is in Search of a Subject...Nicely said, JaggedFrost.

JFrost, came to say good morning to ya and see that your glow is painting the sky already this morning in brilliant hues of lavender and ochre ... all the best my friend, we do what we do because it is, what we do ... the below was written here with your piece and you my friend, foremost in mind.

      betwixt the parted verticals

      a poet's light peeks in

      radiant, emitting warmth

upon a tired and weary soul

      as the spirits rise

      basking in such glow

      life's view awaits, perched

      crouching in shadows

      beyond the glass

      waiting to spring

      motes of wisdom

      hang in suspension

      mere particles of insight

      transported in waves

      from your dimension

      to ours...
