In The Moonlight

Updated on March 3, 2015

In the moonlight

everything in a golden glow

so slow and mellow

sipping homemade wine

my thoughts occupied

with the memory of you

the moon seemed to be smiling

as glittering stars make him a wreath

clouds play with light and shadow

the scent of jasmine perfumed the air

I remembered the magical summers of long ago

the summers of you and me

how funny it seems

that it was all like a dream

life is like that it comes and goes

although I wish you were still here with me

side by side as we grow old

silver-haired with walking sticks

still holding hands

yes, that is what I miss

I looked at the winking stars in the sky

and wondered which one you were swinging on

so far and wide

the eternal heavens

here’s to you

I lifted my wine glass

as my eyes looked upon the beauty

of the moon and stars

and I imagined your smile

as brilliant as the heavenly orbs in the sky

Delightful poem Gypsy, and the crooning voice of Dean Martin's "In the Misty Moonlight" fit the mood perfectly.

I love the image of a silver-haired couple walking hand in hand. To me there's nothing more beautiful than love that strong to endure the tests of time. Beautiful imagery in this piece, Rasma!

This was lovely. Although the voice was someone ageing the soul was eternally young and in love.

Very beautiful poem, Gypsy. The picture of "the moon seemed to be smiling as glittering stars make him a wreath" is superb. Enjoyed it so much.

This was such a lovely poem Rasma, so beautiful how it was written, and so heavenly a view of ones love for this life and connection to loving another. Sweet!

This is one of those beautiful poems we can feel in our heart as we read it. Everyone, or almost everyone, has experienced that love and unfortunately the loss of that love leads us to remember and wonder.

      Voted up, awesome, and beautiful.

Hey Girl , for the last few years I have been intrigued by the night sky , I love it in summer most , when the night air is warm , moving softly and mystical , I swear it makes a soft soothing sound of sorts , I watch and listen as the power of the stars , the moon , and the night winds hiss slowly around the earth or the earth around them ! At our camper out in the north woods the coyotes even join in as the brook below me drones on through the whole night . I little wine , or a few micro brew beers - and all is good ! ........Thanks for sharing ! ++++++++

That sounds like a most romantic night Ed. Once the winter is over I'll be back to watching the night sky. A few time I swear I've seen faces mingle with shadows and all in all it just comes together and is lovely. I'd probably be joining in with the coyote chorus for sure. Nice to hear from you.
