"In Vain" by Eric Wayne Flynn

Updated on December 27, 2014

In Vain

In Vain

In Vain

In Vain

In Vain

In Vain

In Vain

All for naught; these lives in vain

These delusions of grandeur; climbing to the top, on a mountain made of bone

Dirty kneed criminals, bowing to false gods; each seat believeth thee the throne

All things; circumnavigating their erogenous zones

Stuffing their holes with stuff; devouring anger and pain

Shame; washed over the lip, running over the tip

Unto the nerve; the gall; the stomach handling evil

A manufacturing job on US soil

Processing it all

Compressing it into a ball

A pit; a cancerous black hole

As darkness replaceth the soul

As we chase the ball rolling uphill

Running after it all the way until

We see it rolling back on down; momentum; the comeback; the payback; the wrath

Full throttle, against the herd; punishment for losing their way; acting as thine own shepherd

A true Hollywood role

All that God damned; worrying

Light refracted through a lens; the 20/20 vision of the blind

Every sight; seen

Every dream; dreamed

Every sensation

All of it

The perceieved authenticity of life

Inside the mind; where the craziest thing is anything contrary to the concept of me

All of it a sensational mush

A goo that we can't break through

We are numb

We live; so they say

In Vain

Hi again Dana, this poem comes from the same mental state as "Numb", just less abstract and more direct. Thank you for visiting, as always.

I wish I could say something but unfortunately your response to Jodah summed it all up. So I'll second your sentiments Good luck to us because we need it.

Hey Jodah, you said it... That is the challenge of life, to realize that this world is "ours" and not "mine". Our universal connection as humans can save us, if only we change the way we think and act, and in what we now believe. In other words, good luck to us. Thanks for the visit as always.

Hey Eric, I think I have seen the movie. It's called "Life."
