In dedication of my grandmother

Updated on May 27, 2011

My grandmother
with that twinkle in her eyes
always there to help you
an angel in disguise

A woman with a heart of gold
the warmest sweetest soul
her love could truly heal
and restore you to a whole

The many stories that she told
with that smile upon her face
made everything worth while
made this world a better place

Her limitless inner strength
and her very determined will
that even managed to cure her
when she was very ill

Always singing songs
while cooking delicious food
whatever she would make
it always tasted good

Her life was never easy
but she took it all with grace
she fought so many battles
in so many different ways

Adored by one and all
in our neighbourhood
for she had a listening ear
and always understood

A pillar for so many
but most of all for me
I wish she could have lived
for all eternity

Indeed, everybody has that Special person they call Grand-Mother.

I love this piece, it is obviously from the heart but is something that so many Grand-Children can associate with. It casts a beautiful light on that whole Grand-Mother persona. It is a precious and special bond and I imagine that like myself so many people shall be able to connect with this rather special breed of Lady. Even though this lovely poem is personal to you it has the wording that many folk would be happy to be able to assemble. Wonderful

Thank you AliciaC, and yes she was an extremely kind and courageous woman. She was a real crafts woman in the art of life.

Dear Sylvia, I'm so sorry to hear you never knew your grandparents. And I'm lucky indeed to have been so close to her. Even though she left this realm more than a decade ago, she is still with me. Every minute of the day. She is always around. Her advice, her words, her jokes and her wisdom I still use.

The words in rhyme, she gave me that gift. When she was young she used to make a little extra money in a big department store writing personal poems to go with gifts that people bought during the holiday season.

She sounds like a wonderful person. You were very lucky to know her. I never had any grandparents. I miss that about my life.
