In the Hands of Others

Updated on November 23, 2011
Source

My heart it is not here,

it is in another place.

My mind is semi-functioning,

only doing what it needs.

I long to soar,

to grow

But my body is not mine,

it is out of my control.

I am in the hands of others

who determine how I live.

Will this burden

ever lift?

Will I return from the half life

where I currently exist?

Or will my soul

be

set

free?

This is written for my friend who tonight lies in a hospice away from her family and loved ones as the doctors fight desperately to control the pain which is ravaging her now tiny frame.

i dunno, but the more you do it, the more you'll enjoy it. I write at least the rough draft of a poem every day. Don't be afraid to write crappy ones! u don't have to publish all of them. I don't always post my final drafts. Many of the poems seen on my hubs are not the versions I will be publishing in print :-) Glad to see you've caught the bug, even if it's only temporary!

      Hi Justin

I never felt the need to write poetry before but now that I've written a few pieces it seems to have become a part of me. It's very odd! I wonder if it's a passing phase.

Awesome. I'm 33 and I feel where you are in this poem.
