In the Wake of Dark Dreams

In the Wake of Dark Dreams

By Tony DeLorger © 2011

Darkness clothes my fractious dreams,

in thoughts lost to reality.

Spinning, ever spinning,

they haunt my peace,

lulling me into a numbness,

a wall of separation.

I watch without will or choice

the bent styling of imagination,

the courageous steps of fools.

Into the fray of fractured dreams,

burying myself in terror

and the blind acceptance

of possibility.

Faces fade in and out,

launching twisted words

into my mind,

whispering lies and horrors

I cannot bear.

Why do they entreat me,

drag me into this hell,

when I wish not to see.

What dark past digs up such thought,

its existence a conundrum,

an understanding I wish not.

I only see that darkness is me,

crawling around within,

like spiders legs dancing.

Each flurry of movement

another twist of fated experience.

Like tiny punctures in my soul,

the dancing legs antagonise,

give rise to pain,

and horror fare.

I pray for daylight,

the salvation of closure,

the end of nights assault.

I pray for silence,

and ignorant bliss.
