In the mists of the serene .............verse

Updated on December 6, 2015

On the wings of almost total silence I watch
as the soft mists of a calming fog drift
through the hardwood forest
towards me

There is virtually no wind and yet a soft
unfelt current of motion in the air wraps it's flow
through the low spots the stream
and around the pine bows

A mile below the big river has extended its influence
over the cool air of the valley
I can look across the valley from a
thousand feet higher

And I feel as if I could walk out onto the top of the
fog bank and over to the next mountaintop as
I begin to feel the mists cool my face
yet I will wait here and observe

Before I realize it my vision is limited to a
few short feet ahead of me
I will leave soon or I won't easily find
my way home

And yet there is in any quest for solitude
this chance this one chance
this close up of solitude
as if I am alone in a small space
waiting

for the serene

Love the imagery in this poem! I can clearly see the scene in my mind. Love it. Of course, I have a thing for hills and the freedom there. ;)

We take away that special gift of sight and it blocks one influence upon our speeding minds. When it happens in a gentle natural way it creates a bliss. What a wonderful poem to begin my day, thank you.

This was beautiful. I feel as though you are talking about me. Well written and a serene picture that reflects the words.

The wind, the cool air, the mist--I feel them all, and also the need for solitude. Good work!
