The Inattentive College Student: Poem

Updated on March 27, 2012

The speaker woke up one morning having symptoms of sinus congestion. She really wanted to stay home from class until she felt better; yet she's determined not to miss out on class participation. Instead, she decided to take some medicine, and rushed out the door. And here's what happened during class:

Why did I take that medicine?

Because my throat is itchy and scratchy,

And my head feels like its caving-in,

But now I’m in class, getting drowsy.

To make it worse, this class is boring,

Why do I have to feel bad today? Why me?!

I wish I could fall asleep, but I’m known for snoring,

I feel so terrible, you see?

Uh oh! My eyes are heavy, I need to rest,

The room seems to be spinning,

My head is about to hit the desk,

I’ll get the notes from my friend upon awakening.

Sorry instructor, I’m not in the mood,

To pay attention, because I don’t feel so good.

cunn26, I experienced the same thing once when I had taken some allergy medicine, it was terrible. You nailed it as to how it really feels. In His Love, Faith Reaper
