Inspirational Dr. Seuss Books

Updated on August 7, 2013

Dr. Seuss is famous for his rhyming easy-to-read books for children. His books, however, cross over to many ages with his inspirational messages that are littered throughout his books. They are simply stated and provide a great message to children and adults. If you are feeling down and out just look to Dr. Seuss to feel inspired again.

Horton Hears a Who

Horton Hears a Who is a great book because it shows tolerance. It takes complicated life situations such as acceptance, tolerance, and differences of people. It reminds us to be understanding of other people and to protect people that cannot defend themselves.

Favorite Quote: "A person's a person no matter how small."

Happy Birthday to You

This book reminds us of our individuality and to celebrate who we are everyday, not just on our birthdays. So if you are looking for a pick-me-up about you then look no further than Happy Birthday to You.

Favorite Quote: "Today you are you! That is truer than true! There is no one alive who is you-er than you!"

I Can Read with My Eyes Shut!

Education is probably one of the most important things a person can obtain. This is a great book to teach not only children, but to adults too. The theme that reading can open your mind to numerous possibilities is amazing, and really gives you hope for what you hope to accomplish.

Favorite Quote: "The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go.”

The Lorax

Want to change things, particularly about the environment? Then look no further than the Lorax. The Lorax really speaks about societies lack of concern for nature, and the consequences of our over-industrialization. So if you need inspiration against a big corporate giant then look no further then the Lorax. He will inspire you to change things for those who cannot. It was made into a live-action animated movie in 2012.

Favorite Quote: “Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, Nothing is going to get better. It's not.”

Oh The Places You'll Go

Probably one of the most inspiring Dr. Seuss books written, Oh the Places You'll Go is a perfect pick-me-up. The adventure of you is just beginning, and Dr. Seuss takes through the ups and downs of life in his rhyming children's book. When I was a teacher, I would read this to my students on the first day of classes to help them get inspired. It is also a great gift for those starting a new life venture. There are so many great bits of knowledge in this book it is a must read for everyone.

Favorite Quote: “So be sure when you step, Step with care and great tact. And remember that life's A Great Balancing Act. And will you succeed? Yes! You will, indeed! (98 and ¾ percent guaranteed) Kid, you'll move mountains.”
