Inspirational Quotes - Friendship

Updated on March 11, 2014

I can't think of anything more precious than friendship. Without those wonderful people in my life, I would not have wanted to be here at all. Thanks to all my friends who have believed in me, enriched me, motivated me, laughed with me, received from me, nurtured me, let me nurture them and have truly been my loved ones.

In this life you have to have saviours to survive, those curious people who miraculously come into your life for no apparent reason just in time to give you the chance you desperately need or to extract you from evil or disaster. Do they appear because you prayed for help? At the very edge you always pray somehow even if it’s not to God. But God has many names.

If we would build on a sure foundation in friendship, we must love friends for their sake rather than for our own. Charlotte Bronte

Each friend represents a world in us, a world possibly not born until they arrive. Anäis Nin

A friend is a present you give yourself.  Robert Louis Stevenson

The Story Behind the Song

When you’re down and troubled and you need a helping hand
And nothing, nothing is going right.
Close your eyes and think of me and soon I will be there
To brighten up even your darkest nights.

You just call out my name and you know wherever I am
I'll come running to see you again.
Winter, spring, summer, or fall, all you have to do is call
And I'll be there, you’ve got a friend.

If the sky above you should turn dark and full of clouds
And that old north wind should begin to blow
Keep your head together and call my name out loud
And soon I will be knocking upon your door.
You just call out my name and you know where ever I am
I'll come running to see you again.
Winter, spring, summer or fall, all you got to do is call
And Ill be there.

Hey, ain't it good to know that you’ve got a friend?
People can be so cold, they’ll hurt you and desert you.
Well they’ll take your soul if you let them, but don’t you let them.

You just call out my name and you know wherever I am
I'll come running to see you again.
Oh babe, don’t you know that winter spring summer or fall,
All you’ve got to do is call and I'll be there, yes I will.
You’ve got a friend.

Walking with a friend in the dark is better than walking alone in the light. Helen Keller

A real friend is one who walks in when the rest of the world walks out. Walter Winchell

You can always tell a real friend - when you've made a fool of yourself, he doesn't feel you've done a permanent job. Laurence J. Peter

The most I can do for my friend is simply be his friend. Henry David Thoreau

The only way to have a friend is to be one. Ralph Waldo Emerson

True friendship comes when silence between two people is comfortable. Dave Tyson Gentry

On Friendship - Kahlil Gibran

And a youth said, Speak to us of Friendship.

And he answered, saying:

Your friend is your needs answered.

He is your field which you sow with love
and reap with thanksgiving.

And he is your board and your fireside.

For you come to him with your hunger,
and you seek him for peace.

When your friend speaks his mind you
fear not the "nay" in your own mind, nor
do you withhold the "ay."

And when he is silent your heart ceases
not to listen to his heart;

For without words, in friendship, all
thoughts, all desires, all expectations are born
and shared, with joy that is unacclaimed.

When you part from your friend, you
grieve not;

For that which you love most in him may
be clearer in his absence, as the mountain
to the climber is clearer from the plain.

And let there be no purpose in friend-
ship save the deepening of the spirit.

For love that seeks aught but the dis-
closure of its own mystery is not love but
a net cast forth: and only the unprofitable
is caught.

And let your best be for your friend.

If he must know the ebb of your tide,
let him know its flood also.

For what is your friend that you should
seek him with hours to kill?

Seek him always with hours to live.

For it is his to fill your need, but not
your emptiness.

And in the sweetness of friendship let
there be laughter, and sharing of pleasures.

For in the dew of little things the heart
finds its morning and is refreshed.

True friendship is a plant of slow growth and must undergo and withstand the shocks of adversity before it is entitled to the appellation.  George Washington

I'm glad I got the chance to say that I do believe I love you

The way we do today and then if you can remember

Keep smiling keep shining knowing you can always count on me for sure
That's what friends are for
For good times and bad times I'll be on your side forever more
That's what friends are for

Well you came and opened me and now there's so much more I see
And so by the way I thank you

Whoa and then for the times when we're apart, well then close your eyes and know
These words are coming from my heart and then if you can remember

Keep smiling keep shining knowing you can always count on me for sure
That's what friends are for
In good times, in bad times I'll be on your side forever more
That's what friends are for

      Hi Larry,

And likewise, I sense through your comments that your heart is generous and sensitive. You also seem to get the depth which most others don't notice. You are a special person. Thank you.

Russ... Nice notational interplay with the pics, quotes, and songs...I particularly liked your quote from Camus and the poem from Gibran which I read years ago. I remember something he wrote about friendship that stuck with me. Not an exact quote, but along these lines: " Friendship is always a sweet responsibility, never an opportunity..".

Never having met you in person, I can say that I have met your heart, a heart both sensitive and honest, through these HubPages...Thank you, your friend, Larry
