8 Interesting best life quotes

Updated on August 23, 2015

Life quotes by famous people or simply people who achieved something significant in life have always inspired me. They contain so much wisdom that I think you could spend one evening a week simply reading those sayings and drinking life wisdom from them. I likewise think that those wisdom words can lead to accomplish things of the same greatness and possibly even bigger than those people accomplished, if you embrace those sayings, meditate on them and learn from them. My previous hub was about funny quotes and I hope it was useful and contained some humor and insights about us people, so this time I am going to continue with life quotations which will be a little bit more serious. I will also add my comments about each quote. I intend not to make them long and boring but as interesting as possible, although I am not quite sure if I am going to succeed in that. So let me start with the first phrase.

Intellectual growth

1. “Intellectual growth should commence at birth and cease only at death” by Albert Einstein.

Humans are intellectual beings and we differ from other species because of our advanced abilities to think. I suppose every one of us wants to grow in different aspects of our lives. Intellectual growth is essential as we take control over our lives through our thinking power and we grow as our mind grows. People who have accomplished something significant stretched their minds above average and were able to achieve those great things because they paid a price to grow intellectually. They searched for answers. They asked questions. They made mistakes and learned from them. They expanded their knowledge by reading and studying books as well as analyzing life around them. They never stopped learning. Research shows that an average IQ of a person starts going down after he/she turns 23. That’s when we usually finish universities and start working. We concentrate on one specific thing and grow only in that area. Unfortunately our intellect starts dying bit by bit as we stop being students of life. So, let us invest into our brains and let the investment not stop until we die.

2. “Life is full of beauty. Notice it. Notice the bumble bee, the small child, and the smiling faces. Smell the rain, and feel the wind. Live your life to the fullest potential, and fight for your dreams” by Ashley Smith.

I wonder what we see in life. Most of us see only problems. We concentrate on the difficulties we have, daily worries, illnesses, money and other things. Do we ever stop to look at the beauty of the creation that God made ? Do we stop to enjoy little and ‘insignificant’ things in life and cease meditating on our problems and things? Can we ever forget ourselves and look how big our world is and how much beauty is in it? Not really. Why not? We do not have TIME. To tell the truth time is the only thing that we really have. We simply fill it with different kind of junk and then we wonder why there isn’t any time left to enjoy life. It’s because we choose to live that way. We miss the beauty around us and then we wonder why life is so boring and difficult. Well, because we make it that way. However, we can stop, be wise and relax by inspecting the beauty around us and then live our lives to the fullest potential by fighting for our dreams.

Decision making

3. “If you wait to do everything until you're sure it's right, you'll probably never do much of anything” by Win Borden.

Oh, how we are afraid of risk. We love security so much that we would rather choose it than freedom if we have been forced to do that. However, if you study the lives of people whose life quotes I try to comment on in the article you will notice that they achieved a lot because they risked a lot. People who are not able to conquer their fear will not achieve anything. You have to step over your fear and pursue the things you believe you have to. Do not be afraid to make mistakes along the way. Mistakes are part of the game we are in. They teach you more than your victories. And the biggest mistake, by the way is to do nothing. So, be brave and take a step of faith and do what you believe you are called to do.

Formal and informal education

4. “The difference between school and life? In school, you're taught a lesson and then given a test. In life, you're given a test that teaches you a lesson” by Tom Bodett

What a great difference between formal and informal education! One might ask which is better. I believe we need both, but I likewise think that lessons that life gives us are better learnt and are always more practical and useful. Just take a simple example of learning to drive. Which way is it to learn better, by reading a book, or by taking a ride? I am sure that most people would choose the second way. Although I am very fond of reading on different topics I also see that what you learn in books differs from real life a lot. Besides, when you read a book it is always somebody’s opinion that you get. In life you have to form your own opinions about things that are important to you and not rely on other people ideas even if those people are called experts. If you look back, most experts did not predict the financial meltdown that we have witnessed these two years. Even financial ‘gods’ Alan Greenspan and Ben Bernanke kept on repeating that economy is in good shape till everything around crashed. So, you can clearly see the importance of becoming a student of life and forming your own opinions about all matters.

Important stuff in life

5. “The most important things in life aren't things” by Anthony J. D’Angelo.

Sounds ambiguous, but isn’t it true? If we consider love, joy, peace and other spiritual qualities as things then ambiguity disappears. Money is a valuable thing, but not as much as health is. Material things are valuable but not as much as your friends are. I believe we are spiritual beings and we need spiritual things first in order to be happy. We think we need lots of tangible things as long as we get them. Then they satisfy us no more and we need other things. When we get them, we lose interest in them quite fast. And again we need more new things. But are we happy? You answer the question. I prefer spiritual things to material ones. You make your own choice. Let it be wise!

6. "Is death the last sleep? No, it is the last and final awakening” by Walter Scott.

I am so glad that there have been a lot of people who saw that this life is a short journey, and there is another life waiting for us after our body dies. Eternal life or eternal death starts when we go beyond. The Bible talks about the places of Paradise and Hell as two real residences where people spend their eternity. I hope most of us would like to go to Heaven. Then, we have to believe Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior and live as He taught us in the Bible. So, there positively is a life beyond this earthly life. Are you ready to face your Judge? Or will He be your Savior? I hope we will not be judged but will pass to eternal life. But we have to accept the gift of eternal life.

7. "Waiting hurts. Forgetting hurts. But not knowing which decision to take is the worst of suffering.”by Paolo Coelho.

All of us have some plans in life. We need them, because we want to know direction for our lives. It is really unbearable when one has enough time, resources, gifts, but he does not know where he is going and what he is supposed to do. Folks that have a purpose in life and chase it, they are the ones that are going to achieve something and make a difference in life. So, sit down, calm down and decide what is it that you want in life. Then make up a plan of your actions to achieve your dream. Then simply follow the plan. And no more pain that is caused by not knowing which decision to take!

Heaven within

8. "If we have not found the heaven within, we have not found the heaven without” by James Hamilton.

Your inner life is the reflection of the life that you live within. Your life starts with your thoughts, beliefs, imagination, desires and etc. That is inner life. What kind of person you are from within, determines what kind of person you are going to be from without. If your thoughts are good it will be reflected in your character, which will abound in a lot of good qualities. If your thoughts are bad, it will be reflected in your character as well. It will abound in a lot of bad character features. So, there will never be heaven on earth before heaven comes to our hearts and reigns there. Most people want the fruit of goodness, but they do not sow the seed of goodness within themselves. How can you expect to reap anything good without sowing? It is impossible. So, if you want heaven without you will have to invite it within.

As you can see these sayings can teach us a lot. The problem is: are we willing to spend time, read them and learn. If we do I believe our lives will be transformed and we might start seeing everything around us in a new light. I am going to write a few more hubs on the topic. In the meantime, good luck in everything you do and if you are interested read my hub about qualities which are necessary to make and keep friends.
