Irreverent I Am

By Tony DeLorger © 2013

Irreverent I am,

undeniably,

'cause I can,

'cause the expected is mundane,

conformity a sell out

to the paradigm of free thinking,

a square foot to feel free within,

walls of rules,

cultural expectations

and laws of compliance.

Irreverent I must be,

to quell the storm of defeatism,

life squandered by oppressive men,

who demand control,

who deem prison a life lived

of value to community,

to government

to God,

and I, a pariah,

choose a lateral mind.

Irreverent I remain,

if only by my pen,

forced by kindness

to fit into other lives,

to appear within the realm of normal,

while inside I squirm with discomfort,

my whims of fancy

carving grooves in the landscape of life,

rails that lead to shadows,

what's real behind the illusions.

I am irreverent for a reason,

because there's only so much bullshit you can swallow.

We must find a way to be who we are, without all the conditioning, the lies and pretense. Then, and only then, are we truly free.
