Is It Me You're Looking For?

Updated on February 9, 2016
Source

Do you know me?

I have walked with seeds of change.

Do you know me?

It is events that I rearrange.

I see the red dirt blowing across an empty field

It is part and parcel to what it yet to come

For that ground has been without a yield

Since so many darkened seasons ago.

The bees have been gone for many a year

And now we grow greens by using canned air

And cotton swabs, but soon there’ll be no more boles

Blowin’ in the breeze due to the brazen billionaire.

Do you really remember me?

I have walked beside you in the halls.

Do you really remember me?

I was the one that melted into the walls.

There used to be birds far and wide

And long ago was filled with beautiful song.

Open that dust-covered book in the corner

Do you recall how that sound used to belong?

There used to be clear liquid in that stream

That once was down the road apiece.

It is covered in tar remnants and misshapen wood

And those are the sights that only increase.

Do you really recall me at all?

I once had a voice, just like you.

Do you really recall me at all?

I tried to warn you what not to do.

Deb, this is so prophetic it hurts,

Finding ourselves out of all but dried-up land

We need to take control while we still can

To save our resources and our land

      Blessings my friend

Thanks, Mel! As you know, these are things that are near and dear to my heart. Wouldn't you know while wandering my haunts in search of my friends, I found trash next to a pristine oasis, which is home to Wood Ducks as well as other species that appreciate the silence of the wood. Naturally, I picked it up so it would not end up in the water and find its way into a friends alimentary canal. There is so much to do to teach our sad species about being mindful of other animals.

How did I miss this one, Aviannovice? Oh bother, I'm here now, and I hope you forgive my lagging. It seems I've had to apologize to a few here lately.

Great poem as always. It actually had a Dr. Seuss feel to me; not as in the rhyming of words, but the message. Have you ever read his story or seen his movie, The Lorax? This poem reminds me of that story.

Important message in this one, and I loved it as usual. :)

ChittrangadaSharan, it is meant to be more than sad. It is meant to scare the beejeebers out of everyone that lives on this earth. It is the doorway to the future, unless we start paying attention and stop being self centered. Thanks for reading and your valued opinion.

That's right, John. From DDT to Agent Orange, and the terrible things that Monsanto and Dow have wrought to the future of what we are now missing. The ecological balance is well off center, which is why we are paying the price now.

That's right, Linda, so we must really pay attention on how to save the earth to keep it from imploding upon us. If we don't do it now, it will be gone in less than 400 years, and I'm giving it a LOT of leeway.
