Is Today Just One More Day Or the Beginning of Something More?
Welcome Everyday With Enthusiasm
Today is, after all, the first day of the rest of your life.
The question I ask is; is this just another day in the early months of 2011, or is it the beginning of some meaningful choices? When we wake up every morning, do we ask ourselves about our purpose in life? How our choices affect those around us. Do we seize the day, or do we drag through life? I wrote a poem back in 1991 that deals with that subject. I titled it "Just One More Day"
Just One More Day
Did I live today to my heart's content? Or Was it one more day on survival spent?
Did I seize the day? Did I hail the breath of life? Or was it one more day spent on empty pursuits and boredom's strife?
Will my desires be lost in this void called time? Will the sun shine on me brightly and the bounty of the day be mine?
Just one more day of striving under the sun, As the sun's rays fade and the night has come.
Just one more day I realize, Are all men fools and is no one wise?
Oh! How I wish to watch my spirit soar! To experience each moment of my life, like I never have before.
Just one more day of which I speak, For the strong remain strong, while the weak stay weak.
For it is that dawn of hope in my heart that I seek.
This poem asks some rather important questions, that we should ask ourselves when we get up in the morning. Will today be just another day that we all just go through the motions of living? Do we just function like robots? Will we touch someone’s life in a meaningful way? How about our pursuits? Do we pursue those things that truly mean something to us, or are our choices already made for us, by the demands of our realities?
Each day is a gift not to be wasted. Our time spent with love ones should never to be taken for granted. We never know how long each of these special people will be a part of our lives. Choosing is what makes humans unique and separate from animals. The ability to choose sets us apart. Our choices are what defines us. The way we choose to live is our greatest declaration of who we are. We must ask ourselves everyday. Am I being true to myself? Have my childhood dreams been forsaken for the sake of keeping up with this thing called life? Have I gotten to live at least one of my dreams.
So for 2010 take time to dream, laugh, love, and be silly even. If there are words that have been left unsaid, and you know they will be of a healing nature to the recipient of those words, make that call, write that letter, or make an appointment to see that special someone. Seize the day, and do not spend another moment on empty pursuits or boredom’s strife.
