Is this the end of the road-- A Lady and her Husband reaching that age

Updated on September 24, 2012

Dedicated to all seniors and their struggle to survive in this unfair world...for them. This is the story of an old lady who's husband is in bed and refuses to go to the Hospital.

I'm just seventy nine

and I feel the years on my shoulders

I'm just done clearing up my mind

Hubby and me met since I was thirteen

and he was a man with strong hands

oh my...oh my..!

We Married on valentine's day back in 59

Sorry if my heart feels those years again

need some air,

since those years bring memories of yesterday

My voice changes when I remember the

days down the beach next to Ausbury Park

oh my..! he kissed me that night

behind the Ferris wheel

was so frightened, cause it was so dark...

I can actually write my whole life here

If you bare with me

but have to go to the point

Mr. cross has to move on

Today my husband is so sick

alzheimer's is catching on

told him to wake up and get checked on

he just want to sleep and that reminds me of

something becoming out of control

My investments of a lifetime

plummeted to almost none

My social security is just my only

mean of income

stock market was not my best option

30 years of bonds went just awfully wrong

back to my situation

leave this chat for politicians

my hubby is leaving me alone

he doesn't mean to but one day he will be gone

My heart is trying to cope with him

is know what I mean

Our kids are grown

and have problems of their own

most of them divorced

not like us..! life has gotten worse

Every morning I watch over my husband

I know is hard to talk to him anymore

no more roses galore

no more sweet kisses like before

Is the third week he would'nt wake up for nothing

I feel in despair..numb and who cares?

my voice at times is feeble

not strong enough to become devilish

At times I feel young and want to have fun

but turn around and my hips won't respond

So much knowledge down the drain

Is hard to keep up with Mr. Pain

Oh sorry this is a hub

and can't help it you know..?

would take me pages

to let you know about my coming of ages

But I decided to lay down next to him

and see in our dreams that fall and that rain

Wish was a dream

close, my eyes and wake up in paradise

wait a minute...this is paradise!

My hubby is wearing his army suit

the one he wore to marry his muse

A voice from nowhere tells us,

"Your time has come"

We smile and accept this time around

running to see that fall where kisses will abound

Our time has become

a life with so much fun

we are together in Heaven

this time will be forever...

Do you think the end of the road of life is...

    Hi PETER,

    Long time no see...just joking,

Actually your point of view is prone to cause extreme arguments, but as a moderator of the mind, I must agree with your view. There were times when the older was praised for their wisdom and still are being respected , but in other latitudes. Here in America, the older you get...the more limitations you will find. Thanks so much Peter Lumetta.

If only we could see life like it is and not like they want us to see it. We don't have the time to waste on politics and heartbreak, we need to live. Thanks Lord,

@lord de cross: Empathy for the elder is so rare today that it seems that society trys so hard to pretend that they don't exist. Aging is not a Disease!

It is merely the latter stages of this journey we call life. You are a

realist, my friend and yet your ending shows me that there is a compassionate soul that feels for those who find themselves lost and alone.

You are a gifted and skillful wordsmith whose talents are more than the words you write. Yours is learned from experience and shared with love. Great poetry deserves

recognition and this is great Poetry! Voted Up Buttons pushed that i felt applied here, my new friend! Also, I am now a follower, Lord de Cross!

Regards Mike (Aka Professor M!) ;D

This piece is inspired from real lives. Economy has struck hard America, and here is just an example of our Seniors. Most don't want to be bothered with the system and... leave this world anonimously. My heart goes to all of them. Like I wrote: what a waste! so much knowlegde dwon the drain.

Reminds of the movie, "The Notebook." The poem reached my inner emotion. The love that couple have is something that all of us should learn from and embrace. To many times all of us give up because something has gone horridly wrong. We should not do that and learn life's lessons. Through good and bad couples should always be there for one another. :)

So Sad, but yet beautiful. It made me think of my sweet grandparents, who always held hands. This is why humans have memories, so they can recall the past, and live it once again.

I still enjoy your great hubs, and I wish I had time to read more.

    Have a great week.

    Hello Raciniwa,

Is sad yes! Life is so short at times. The world is not the same anymore...and there is little time to remember these souls and their spare time. My PRAYERS go to them too. Thank you Raciniwa!
