It Wasn’t Me (poem)

Updated on August 13, 2012

It wasn’t me who broke your heart

Made teardrops start

Tore this apart

Upset the cart

-

It wasn’t me who brought the rain

Which flowed from pain

Each sad refrain

We can’t explain

-

Or was it just our time

No reason for our rhyme

A call from distant chime

Confusion so sublime

-

It wasn’t me who cast the night

That doused our light

No hope in sight

Just soulless flight

-

It wasn’t me who brought this end

Our love to rend

We can’t pretend

Will ever mend

-

Or was this meant to be

Our written destiny

A fate we didn’t see

Confusion now set free

-

It wasn’t me who lied to you

Who was untrue

This stranger who

Did this to you

-

It wasn’t me

Another great poem! I love the rhyme scheme. And of course, how can you go wrong with the Carpenters?

      Voted up.

The cadence is excellent and perhaps we are not meant to know who it was.....as with life, it rarely is one person.

This is great - particularly like the short stanzas, the rhyme and the rhythm which doesn't falter and suits the subject matter perfectly - It wasn't me! Awesome

A love naturally dying with no one to blame. Lovely.

The Carpenters were two very talented people and Karen's voice was simply beautiful. Loved the image.

'It wasn't me who lied to you

      Who was untrue

      This stranger who

      Did this to you'.

No it couldn't possible be me who hurt you so

this callous man I do not know.....

What a lovely way to say sorry, I think... from my perspective at any rate.

      Beautiful and touching.

      Love it.

MHatter . . .wow, what a hub! Voted up and all the way. This should be a song instead of a poem. You have a solid verse structure. So think about that venue as well as doing more of these. Great read.

Beautiful sir, heartfelt and a situation that we often find ourselves in... A LOT!

I love the rhythm, it will surely make a great song, if it had a nice tune to it! sharing :)
