It's Just One of Those Days Humor

Updated on July 20, 2017

Shannon is a passionate individual whose feelings and thoughts sometimes spill onto the pages in the form of poetry.

It's just one of those days, they say

The sky is overcast and gray

Time to hit the ground running, quick - jump out of bed

But your face hits the floor instead

Your hair is frizzy from all of the humidity

And you cannot find your car keys

Your socks are mismatched

The front of your shirt is now the back

Oh, what a mess

You can't even dress!

And don't you dare look down

The baby has your lipstick now

If the other kids don't leave soon, they'll miss the bus

Why, oh, why must this happen when you're in a rush

Sometimes all that's left to do is grin and sigh

Because there is no rhyme or reason why

Still, judging by it's start, this day surely will be long

So, please, whatever you do - don't ask what else can go wrong!

Hi Shanmarie - so very cute and funny - but true. That is a great poem that will brighten the darkest day. I love the picture too. You are so right, never ask what else can go wrong unless you want to find out.. voted up - great job :)

      What's that law called? Murphy?

Ya know - whatever can go wrong - will go wrong?

I've surely had days like those...weeks even..

Hello mdscoggins. I looked at your profile before commenting. We seem to have a love of psychology in common. :) Doesn't it always seem that when one asks what more can go wrong, the answer is never good? LOL

Hehe. Thanks for commenting, Leslie. I know the HP comment monster ate your last comment or two. Apparently some from others too, or so I'm told.

Yes, I'm sure everyone knows Murphy personally. LOL. It makes it easier when there is a sense of humor and a grain of salt. Those things in my poem have happened to me.

I'm a cashier and the other afternoon at work was one of those times. The transaction I was trying to do was not working and taking awhile. Turns out there was an easy explanation and fix for that. The problem is that the very nice customer decided it was more trouble than he wanted to deal with at that point and wanted to just cancel the transaction so that he could go pay for the other item he had at a self checkout. So the supervisor was going to do that and I tried to back up out of her way, backing into part of the register behind me on accident, which shut down the entire thing. Well, that canceled the transaction for him. LOL. But, it also meant moving the lady in line behind him over to another register. She'd already had her cart unloaded onto the belt. Prior to all of that, the credit card system froze up and wouldn't cancel a transaction or complete the transaction, which did irritate the guy in line behind her. Maybe it froze because the entire register stopped letting me do anything because it decided that the register receipt tape had to be changed right then and there and could not wait until AFTER the items had all been scanned and it was actually time to pay. Of course, being one of those days, there was no register tape actually at the register and the person that was supposed to be bringing some never showed up prior to that. Anyway, the lady that had to have all her things moved was incredibly gracious about it. For that I am glad, though I've pretty much learned not to let customers rile me by now. Not my first job with the public and nothing really compares to dealing with the customers that collect collectibles. They go nuts over anything.

What that is a bad day? Sounds like a great way to start off laughing at yourself. This was very fun I will try to remember it tomorrow mourning.

Please don't mourn tomorrow on my account, Eric. ;)

Hahaha I have those morning quite often ... one time I did not realize I had my skirt on inside out! Then the two pairs of black and navy shoes that I get missed up and wear one of the wrong color. So many other bad, bad days I've had too. It is always good to laugh at oneself, as I do often hee hee.

Hope tomorrow starts off better. Oh, my hair was one big ball of wildness today due to the rainy weather we are having. I tried to fix it but to no avail.

Gosh, how I remember those mornings when trying to get everybody where they needed to be by the time they needed to be there. V+ Funny.

Faith Reaper, some days are just blike that. LOL. But when it comes to clothes inside out or backwards, don't you wish someone would let you know before you go home and notice at the end of the day?

motherofnations, I am currently walking around with mismatched tennus shoes because my son decided to cut the shoelaces on one with scissors he wasn't even supposed to have. The only replacement I could find is black. So one whige shoe has black laces and the other has white.

The biggest challenge, Kim, us getting them up and dressed in the morning.

Hi Ruby. Some days make you want to crawl back in bed before something else happens. Haha

shanmarie; you shared what most of us go through...sometimes it is just a REAL 'off' day! time I was racing, getting ready for work, trying to do dishes from the night before...the clean wet dishes were in the drainer, grabbed the dishtowel, but my cupboard door was open above it, and somehow the open box of minute tapioca tipped over, and the tapioca spilled all over the wet dishes causing a very gooey mess on every one! I was LIVID. Out of all the mishaps I have had in the mornings getting ready for work, that one has been memorable...unless I count the one where the cat got out! I could go on and on. Thank you for a delightful write. (love your statement about the baby having the lipstick!)

Sparklea, mine are not actually babies anymore, but the things they can make a mess of and with will stand out in a memory for sure! That mess you made sounds memorable, but at least you can laugh about it now. ;)

Very funny but true state of affairs Shanmarie. I enjoyed reading this. I wrote a poem called "it's One of Those Days" as well on my hub "Funny Bones" about everything that can go wrong in a day. Voted up.

I guess I'll have to go look that one up, Jodah, since I don't recognize it! Thanks for letting me know it exists. :)

If it makes you feel any better, the older you get, the less you care. :) I used to change my clothes just to go down to the corner store. Now I could care less if I have on matching shoes!

      Very nice piece my dear.
