It's Time

Updated on May 30, 2013

I've spent my life trying to make others love me,

Running to their side providing support and sympathy,

Trying to show them that someone really does care,

And that when they need me I will always be there,

But when that shoe is on the other foot they're nowhere around,

They are off with their "other" friends running you into the ground,

Being a friend of convenience when you thought it was real and true,

Hurts a bit until you stop and realize this person isn't real they don't care about you,

It's always themselves that come first no matter what,

They toss you to the side without a second thought,

If my absence from their life means so little to them,

That I can be easily replaced by others on a whim,

No need to be sad over someone who doesn't care that I am gone,

No need to sit here and try to figure out where I went wrong,

This wasn't who I thought it was so now I know the deal,

Then why be upset about it I never lost anyone for real,

It's time to pick up the pieces of my broken heart off the floor,

Glue them back together and then open the door,

Let in some sunshine and welcome a brand new day,

And cherish the ones in my life who decide to stay,

For those who aren't real I've just got one thing I want you to know,

There's a very hot and special place where you can go.

That's the beauty of writing. We get to rant, heal, purge etc.. I really related to this poem because I had a few so-called friends abandon me when I was diagnosed with cancer. It was a eye opening to find out that they weren't what I thought. I wrote a hub on it after a few years to purge the pain and sadness and anger.

Thanks, I kind of went on a little rant there but better written down than yelled out in a crowd lol.

I don't waste any time with people like that. Surround yourself that give back. Friendship is a 50-50 deal. Sorry to hear you've had some crummy so-called friends. Great poem.
