It’s day-break now!

Updated on September 26, 2014

With much reluctance do I get up;

Post ablutions

perch I near the window,

With a cup of steaming coffee,

for the usual visual treat!

Shrug off laziness and exchange greetings

all the leaves of the tree,

close to the compound wall,

To the rustles of the leaves the birds instantly respond

By cawing up the still-dozing humanity!

What are they all up to, wonder I!

Daily chores engage me;

Office beckons my sleeping husband;

Does their mission end in waking us up

Or does mankind miss the awakening aspect?!

      The steaming coffee is my start of day and I could see it in your poetry. Love this poem.

      Good poem Suj, we have two birds wake us every morning about 7am, tapping on the bedroom window.

      Well, Suj, I can easily visualize this scene and understand the sentiment. I must be up well before daybreak, the sun still sleeping, at 4:30 AM most mornings, and so there are no birds and it is still dark for a long time after I arrive at work. How lucky for you that you can sleep late!
