Minds Meet in The Mountains

She flew into Kathmandu from London to savor the sights and sounds of the mystical mountains in the Himalayas in the fall of 2016. In order to realize her dream to be close with the Himalayas for a while, she had bought the Everest Package from a leading tour operator in London itself.

After landing in Kathmandu, The Guide in charge led her to the hotel for the night halt along with the group. Then followed welcome drink in the lobby. The guide then took out his roster briefed the group about how life would be in the upcoming days in the mountain trail. And the dos and don'ts on the trail. Then the very next day she had to take her flight to Lukla and trudge the trail till the Everest Base camp with the group.

So on the following morning, the group was geared up and ready to take their flight to Lukla at 6 o'clock. The moment they would land in Lukla they would have to begin their journey on foot.

While trudging on the trail she could realize that she had made the right decision at home for buying the package. Because the blue sky over her head, the silvery mountains at distance and the rocky slopes made her forget the trivial of life. back home.

As the day went by and by she found her guide as an excellent communicator having brilliant command over English. He could not only tell the names of the mountains in the distance but also tell the story about Buddhism. Above all, he was had keen eyes and ears having a personality flooded with empathy.

Then she started pondering over her personal life. Her liking started shifting from the mountain and meadows to the guide. In fact, she had a crush with the guide and kept his image in the penury of her heart. It seemed to her finally, she found her prince charming. But the guide didn't have the slightest hint of it.

In the Spring of 2017, she bought a package for Lhasa from the same tour operation in London, Arter arriving in Kathmandu she found the same guide again to lead the group. She was delighted.

Though she was a born Catholic she had started Buddhism way of life. On the other side, the guide had studied in a missionary school in Darjeeling, he was an ardent Buddhism.

So, they arrived at a meeting point of their minds. As a result, she had a crush on the man whom she met for the first time in her life.

As days passed by, their bond between the two grew intensely. They realized they were meant to be for each other. Besides, they would bring also east and west a bit closer.

So, they decided to bind their earthly body like man and woman through legal marriage. And walk hand in hand on this journey of life striving towards the Infinite.

Hence, in the last Monsoon, she flew into Kathmandu intending to secure a legal marital status between them. After finishing her work her plan was to fly back.

She had to stick to her schedule. Therefore, at any cost, they wanted to get hold of a strong legal paper before flying back.

In this regard, they had requested a reliable guy to collect details from the lawyers and the government office before applying for the paper.

The guy had agreed to take charge of the given responsibility.

Accordingly, as the day came, he along with seven witnesses took a jeep drive to the District Office situated away from the Valley.

Upon arriving at the office, the officer in charge made them wait for one more day for thorough verification though they had applied with the papers they were asked to provide.

After uptight delays, the officer called them in. He requests the groom to read the vow aloud. So that the people standing by could hear them. then he gave the marriage certificate.

They felt a great relief as she received the paper from the District Administrator without much fuss.

Then they came out of the office and headed towards the bus stop to catch the last bus of the day for the Valley.

Meanwhile, those seven witnesses had already left for their home after signing on the witness column on the paper on the previous day itself. And they arrived at the Valley in the evening.

In the later week, she explored the ancient cities of Bhaktapur and Patan as per her plan with her husband.

Soon the day came. She had to fly back to her native land.

Her husband had given her consent to living life together.

The Gift In Words

What would their guy present them?

They had given him an opportunity to serve them for their secured future before tying a nuptial knot.

He had no gold or silver and no money to buy a perfect gift for a newly married couple.

His purse always got porous due to his own fault in the past. He could never manage money properly right from his childhood.

But he had a gift cooked up in his mind for her before she flying back to England that morning.

So, as usual, he woke up early morning. And he attended to his natural call and freshened up.

Then he dressed up and took a stroll towards the newly married home.

He arrived at their flat after a short walk. Then he knocked at the metal grill to step in for wishing a pleasant flight.

Her mother in law welcomed him with a smile. He sat on a bamboo stool. And then she served him with a warm cup of black tea.

She appeared in the kitchen wishing him and sat in the front facing him on the next stool.

Then he asked if he could tell her something. She agreed.

‘Here it goes.’ He started.

‘I stretch my arms thrusting down to my bed to raise my hip to shift to the wheelchair that is waiting for me mutely throughout the night beside the bed.

After positioning my body on the seat, I lift my two dangling legs to the metal pads below fixed in front of the wheel.

Now the wheel is ready to take me out to greet the golden sun smiling on the earth from the east

Then I grip the two wheels beside me to roll on. Then I come out of my home. And the wheels roll through the narrow winding lane to the north to meet my relative who lives there.

I reach quickly. After a brief chat, I take leave. And I ride back the same lane enjoying the cool air of the dawn while the tall houses stood quietly watching me in wonder.

Along the way, I give a quick glance at a large U-shaped school building rounded by high walls.

Suddenly my eyes fall on the glitzy zinc sheets lying on the foot of the wall. I stop my wheelchair for a moment. I see a tiny tail pressed by the zinc sheet. It is twisting with flipped over the belly.

So, I stoop down to lift the sheet to save a snake. Bu to my surprise I get shocked and my emotion gets flooded with horror from the scene I see.

As I lift the sheet, I find how such a tiny snake swallowing a huge duck. And only remaining part left is the two legs! Its belly is full and belched out.

Fear ran throughout my body. I tend to tremble. I can't look at the scene anymore. So, I shut my eyes. Immediately, I roll on the wheels to leave.

No sooner I reach the threshold of the door, I turn my head around. I see a huge cobra slithering towards me as if I am the only prey left for him in this world.

In a fraction of a second, I leap forward to dash into the room leaving the wheelchair on the door. No sooner I arrive in the kitchen, I find myself alone. I can't escape any further. The door and the two windows are all closed!

On the other hand, the cobra has already trapped me for his final siege. I see his head rise tall looming towards me. And his pointed mouth is about to spew venom if I make the slightest move further

So, I have no time to think even for the end of my life. And I shiver.

I stand still like a statue. So, does the cobra with his head still high above me.

‘Om Nama Shiva Ya’ I chant silently within my mind. The four words are the last refuge left for my life.

After a while, I peer through my closed eye. I see to my relief, the cobra falls like a punctured balloon lying flat on the floor.

The Black Diamond!

Then I turn my eyes slightly to the right towards the door. I see a tall and robust figure appear on the door.

The figure dodges in to grab the king cobra by its tail and drag it out from the kitchen.

I follow him with my mouth wide open and my eyes blinking. He pulls the flat king cobra till the open field through the lane. And then he swings it around his head three times to fling it far away to the open field.

He strides back and tells me,

‘Hey! I am a black diamond.’

‘People call me a black diamond.'

‘You too can me the black diamond.'

And he vanishes.

Finally, she said, ‘And then.'

He said, ‘finished’

And then told her ‘No panic please!’,

She said, ‘wow’ after every pause he made while narrating the story. He had also seen how her face glowing red and her eyes getting wider with fright. No doubt, she had listened to him intensely.

‘That was a dream I’ve had last night. ‘He said a smile.

Then she left for freshening up to the restroom.

The guy started sipping the tea quietly.

After freshening up, she came back again to listen to guy curiously.

The guy asked her,

‘Do you remember him? I had introduced you in Bhaktapur.'

She added,

‘Yes, he has a tall sturdy figure wearing white turn and white robe. But his face is as black as charcoal with eyes two embers glittering in the dark night. Anybody would encounter him in the dark would faint with fear.’

Her breakfast was ready. Her husband was also prepared to drop her out to the Airport.

But the guy does not wait for long to join them in breakfast. He wishes her a pleasant journey and a happy married life.

And he leaves them behind. Back home again with a feeling of sharing his skill with fellow beings.

Hi, I wanted to welcome you to HP. I liked the sweet emotion found in your story. I did notice that, at the beginning of the story, their were two parts that were repeated, word for word. It is easy to correct! Have a wonderful night.
