Journey's Path

Updated on March 24, 2015

By: Wayne Brown

Where does the long river flow?

Where do the high winds blow?

Where do things finally go,

When they go on their way?

What is it that people hear?

What is it that people fear?

How do they persevere

When they go on their way?

What is it that we really need?

What is it that we truly heed?

Can we really believe,

What we find along our way?

Will the journey be very long?

Will we ever return back home?

Is it all etched in stone,

As we journey along our way?

What keeps us pushing along?

What keeps hope from being gone?

Is it because we’re not alone

As we continue along our way?

What keeps our hopes alive?

How do we know we will survive?

Is that why we so strive,

As we struggle along our way?

Should we follow the road’s left turn

Should we keep the stars at our stern

Is there a right or a wrong turn,

As we journey upon our way?

Will there be a rainbow at the end?

With a pot of gold to begin once again?

Where our journey ends,

When we get to that final place?

No one who toils upon life’s long road

Really knows how to bear the load

All just trust in God

And keep trudging toward the sun

@savanahl...Thank you. I have only been writing poetry for just over a year now. I tried it on a whim and it has worked out. I have between 200 and 300 poems here on the Hub. Glad you enjoyed this one. WB

@Truckstop Sally..Thanks much, Amy. Unfortunately there are far too many who are focused more on the destination than the journey and it totally shapes their life...sometimes in all the wrong ways. They never change their mindset because they believe that mindset leads to destination...it is very destructive. Life is about compromise and flexibility and the ability to understand that we are wrong sometimes...to many people cannot do that...they so greatly need that scripture you sighted not only for religious purposes but also political ones. I'll just shove my soapbox back under the bed now! LOL! WB

@FitnezzJim...Thank you. Harry had a lot of lessons and experience in his songs...he had lived it. WB

Well Done. Somewhere about halfway through this, the lyrics from a Harry Chapin song popped into my head: "We're all just travellers, on the road to Kingdom Come."

WB - Such wonderful thought-provoking questions. As with many journeys, the actual trip/process is more important than the end/product.

Makes me think of the scripture/song from Proverbs 3:

Trust in the Lord with all your heart

      and lean not on your own understanding;

in all your ways acknowlege him,

and he will direct your paths.

      Thanks for sharing!

@radhikasree...Thank you. This one came to me rather quickly but with no particular inspiration...just arrived. I have had enough of those experiences now that I do not question them...I just write it down! Thanks for the good words and the good marks! WB

I absolutely love this poem - so thought provoking, I have read it several times already, I will bookmark as it will be a 'favourite' for me.

The song is beautiful and perfect for your poem.

@CMerritt...I surely wish that I could get to the songwriting phase, Chris. I think I can find the words but I am just not adept enough on the guitar to find those necessary melodies to highlight it...maybe I need to ignore that fact and just go with it...a career on YouTube! LOL! Thanks for those good words! WB

Wayne, you need to pick the guitar up of yours and strum a little tune with those words...very inspiring.

I think that video was a nice addition to reflect upon those words....I think THAT is what made me think, it too would make a great song.

Keep'em coming, I never tire of you or your hubs.

      Chris

@poetvix...There's not much we have in this life that we can count on...trust, love, faith but about all that is left in the end. I used that last line to say that sometimes we have to give up questioning and just walk in the way leaning on our love, trust, and faith. Thanks so much! WB

What a stellar poem on the uncertainty that is the human condition. I like the ending best for with God we can do so much more than the nothing important really without. Blessings.

@Vincent Moore...This is one of those subjects that just came to me as I sat with a blank sheet of paper in front of me. I have no idea how I came by the inspiration...possibly a couple of people I knew back home who had reached the end of that journey last week...the subconscious mind is so powerful. Thanks much! WB

@The Frog Prince...Getting a bit of inspiration at times thank goodness! WB

As we struggle along our journey we all know that there is a beginning and an end. Where it takes us down that long and winding road of life, no one knows where it will end. For those who believe in God may they be blessed, for those who struggle with their beliefs may their eyes open wide some day before their journey ends.

Peace and blessings to you my poetic friend. Very nice touch with the video, I listened to it's peaceful call as I read this beauty. Voted Up, awesome, beautiful and useful.

Your beautiful poetry, Wayne, inspired this refrain:

The journey is what drives us

Though we know not our destination.

We may not find the answers

      But hope is our inspiration.

Wayne, you write so well. The lines are perfect and the flow simply beautiful. I do believe there is a right way and we must keep on the path God has set before us. We have the free will to leave that path and even to return and seek His forgiveness. Then I love when He gives that little hug before nudging us in the right direction.
