Jammin' On Saturday Night
I am an avid music fan, regularly listening to everything from Conway & Loretta singing "Louisiana Woman, Mississippi Man" to Van Halen's "Jump". I listen to music when I'm cleaning, writing, whatever I'm doing! I have my all time favorites of course, who doesn't? But I don't limit myself to just those, I like my variety.
Billy and I have spent countless hours on many Friday and Saturday nights sitting on the tailgate with the radio bumping to some good tunes. In case you don't know, Billy is my boyfriend of 4 & 1/2 years. He doesn't like as much variety as I do when it comes to music, he prefers mostly old country and classic rock. One of his all time favorites is Jimmie Rodgers, aka 'The Singing Brakeman'. The nickname derived from his job as a brakeman for the railroad. No this isn't the Jimmy Rogers who sang the 60s hit Honeycomb. THIS Jimmie Rodgers lived and sang back in the 1920s. He was the first inductee into the Country Music Hall of Fame and is known as "The Father of Country Music."
Billy often talks about growing up and he's told me a lot about is parents, Odessa and Robert Waldrep. His dad was also a Jimmie Rodgers fan. Billy remembers hearing the Singing Brakeman on the radio almost on a daily basis. Billy's dad passed away in 1989 and from then on, the music of Jimmie Rodgers has had special meaning for him. I'm a fan now too, of course. How could I not be?
On a different note, our tailgating is loaded with fun, at least we think so! One thing we often enjoy is the "Who sings this?" game! He always confuses Def Leppard and Van Halen and I often confuse Gene Watson and Tracy Lawrence! It all just adds up to good old fashioned fun!
It was way to hot last weekend to tailgate, heck it was like a sauna outside. No worries, we brought the cooler inside and danced barefoot in the living room! I want all my friends to know that as the cooler gets lighter, my dancing and singing get better and better, just ask Billy.
He's recently bought a contraption I haven't seen yet. It's a combination karaoke, amp, IPOD dock and I don't know what else. He's bringing it over tonight along with his guitar and dobro. I love to listen to him play!
I hope the cooler is heavy.
