Journey To Unknown

When the news of your departure came

I wished to be in a horrible nightmare

Hoping to wake up to cast and tie

But I wasn’t in a dream

I could not believe you have departed

Relatives, friends and chiefs gathered

They called your names, you couldn’t respond

All left in gloomy mood

Tears flows like rivers

Perhaps tears resurrects,

You would have come back to us

Yet you lay lifeless

Grieving the Loss of a Loved One

Source

You killed a wild animal

Which scares away people?

You fought like tiger

And that got you the title

“Ogbuefi”

Yet death wasn’t scared to summon you.

When illness hit, you fought back

With your wealth and strength to no avail;

In the noon of your being,

Wintry hand of death struck

You withered like morning-rose flowers

That saw the sun;

While you were battling with death

You could not bid your family farewell

Leaving your young pretty wife and offspring –

to fate?

    You are right, and its impossible to express the pains and sorrows one feels after a loss of loved one. Death always leaves a vacuum in our hearts. Thanks for your response.

    A good, albeit sad, poem about death. The poem tells how death wins against all comers.
