Juxtaposed we were

in that classroom,

she of the fall off

my chair beauty

and me at the awkward

stage of fourteen.

Just suppose I had

overcome my shyness,

struck up a conversation

with my stammering lips,

and drew her attention

with artistic endeavors.

if I had only
captured her imagination

with a pigment of my own,

then hand in hand

to the lunchroom

the envy of my peers

giggling over bologna

and cheese.

Eyes locking at times

in entrancement,

stolen kisses behind

open locker doors.

then perhaps

she would be

juxtaposed here,

with her blue eyes

flashing deligh

and that impish

grin begging

me flee upstairs

for some passion spent

these many years later

as I sit here

and finish

my just supposes

all alone.
