Keeping A Daily Journal

Keeping A Daily Journal

I recently read the following quote on a notepad in a bookstore in Watkins Glen, New York: "Keeping journals lets you live life twice." I agree. I have kept diaries since age eleven. It is fascinating to go back to when I was fourteen years old and read details of a trip taken in ninth grade to New York City. I recorded where we stayed, tours we went on (Empire State Building, Rockefeller Center) and where we ate...events I would never remember today. For me this ties a ribbon around memories. Because of my passion for writing, I have also kept detailed journals of special events. Examples are numerous vacations to places like Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Concord North Carolina, Florida, Branson Missouri, to name a few. Whoever reads this, I hope you will consider keeping a diary, journal, or both. I am amazed to go back and read something I wrote ten years ago that I had totally forgotten about. Within the next few months I will be getting together with several friends from high school whom I have not seen since graduation. I will be able to share notes I logged in my diary from the years we were in high school. I assure you, you, too, will love doing this once you get started.

What a wonderful legacy for your family and future generations of those you love! I think journaling is wonderful idea. I've taught a couple of classes on creative journaling and we had so much fun finding the unusual to embellish the pages.

Very interesting HUB. Journals are very important and I find them as a writer to be very useful. I recently wrote about it one of my hubs: https://hubpages.com/literature/Writing-Tips-how-t...

I have kept a diary since I was younger, but I don't know why I stopped writing this year. This hub really encouraged me to return to writing and like you said, tie a ribbon around the memories I love! Thanks!

To Searchinsany: It is NEVER EVER too late. I've checked out a few of your excellent hubs and you have gained another follower. Keep doing what you are doing! But next time you take a trip, or just want to log an event, party, plop it in a journal. You will be tying a ribbon around memories. One of my best friends made me promise I would will to her one of my journals.

What an honor. You will love re-reading what you have written, later on. You will ask yourself, "did I REALLY write that?" Blessings, Sparklea :)

I really envy you on this topic, I reckon I have left it too late in life to keep a journal. However I will take this Hub on board and encourage my grandchildren.

Having said that, my Hubs are a kind of journal of how my understanding of the Scriptures has improved over the years; although many may not agree.

Thank you Lynn! I so appreciate hearing from you! I am also creating a Memory Book for myself and family members as I go through numerous photos. I hope to put them together to give as individual gifts. Very Sincerely, Sparklea :)

I keep a journal and also use separate ones for travel. Also, "journaling" is key in scrapbooking. Great reminder!! Voted UP.
