Khmer Rouge- Off His Shoulder

Updated on September 11, 2011

Each summer season, they breathe good health
With sunny sky….fresh air…no fear…
But too soon it came…an explosion of bomb
That left villagers in fear…

Like a cheetah they rushed through forest…
Step on thorn, bark, and rocks…
Slit their skin…most were unknown…
The fear has taken…no pain were felt…

Bare foot they were…less clothe they wore
But was not that important…life was more
Bullet fly the air, bombs smoke the ground
Air filled with dust and dead body smell

Each angle spill flesh, such head and guts…
Arm, head and legs
detached from body part…

Not all escape from brutality
All were unlucky

Like a young boy
Were caught by devils
Beaten like hell
With fist and kicks

His body was worn
From such physical harm
They cut his head…off his shoulder
Left hanging far apart...

Hi Chanroth...You have wonderfully captured a devastating time in Cambodia's history. I particularly like how you brought the reader to the 'killing fields' with such a minimum of words. Voted Up and beautiful (because it is the closest I could find to haunting). Great job!

Hi homestead, I know it is hard to believe, I have pictures wanting to post to but hubpages won't let me because they say its mature content. It was a picture of a cambodian boy about 13 years old head chopped off. My dad told me he remember they chopped boys head off and play kick ball with it and use it as a stove to hold pots to cook food.

So many atrocities occurred during that time. Pol Pot was evil but his guerrilla fighters were even more brutal. I am looking forward to creating the Hub and will let you know when I publish it.

Very nice hub and portraying a very bad time. It is indeed very sad. It is hard to believe that people can actually do this to each other... very hard to believe.

Hi Uncle Matt, I was doing the same and writing about it. It would be so awesome to learn about your wife experience and compare to my parent experience. I want to know where she has gone through and learn a lot from her. I have heard many stories from my dad friend. He was talking about his wife after getting married for 3 month, the Khmer Rouge happen. They caught her and cut her stomach open in front of him, but he was able to escape from getting his head cut off. It is very interesting and I also met with this man who was the man that kill someone during the Khmer Rouge. I don't want to spoil the rest, but its getting interesting. Let me know if your done with the hub, I'm doing mine as well and hope we can learn from each other by that. Say hello to your wife!

Hey Chan! My wife lived through the Khmer Rouge (she'd kill me but she is 39 years old!). She was there and was lucky to be put in refugee camps. Some of her family were not that lucky! Kudos to you for posting this. I am working on a new Hub where I interview my wife and her family regarding the Khmer Rouge. She was able to get Refugee Status and was given citizenship to the US. Nice Hub!

Hi Dinesh, I know it is horrible. I look at these people who do it as an inhuman! Very cruel and I agree, they are manufactured with stone or metal heart! Thank you! :)

      Chanroth,

It is truly horrible. I cant imagine aren't they humans to do this? How they could do this to another human. Are they manufactured with stone or metal heart?

Any way i feel very bad for them.

Yes-gruesome atrocities abound there. I mention this on oaccassion in my novels. I found I enjoyed this very much. You have this laid out beautifully and it is easy to understand. Keep up the great HUBS. I must give this an “Up ONE and awesome.” I'm always your fan! RJ

Based upon your HUB, you might enjoy this HUB…

I know little about Khmer Rouge atrocities in Cambodia. Nepal too, was rocked with Communist insurgency. And I can so much relate this poem with "my emotions."
