"Kurt" by Eric Wayne Flynn

Updated on April 5, 2014

"Kurt" by Eric Wayne Flynn

He heard the devil callin

Whispers from the back of his property

Everything in the world was his

A vessel set out for fame and fortune

Sick to his stomach with its destination

A victim of time and space

A genius,right time, right place

Wrong songs

Righting the airwaves

The last of the great bands

Three crazy kids in one van

The primary vision of one artist and one man

Smelling like teen spirit

Something in the way

Of our buddies happiness

Shaped like a shotgun

Swallowing shells

On April 5th, 1994

Our hero fell

You imagined

A message from Boddha laying on your chest

Saying you lost the love

The gooey essence of why you were even alive in the first place

You knew people, you knew you

Who better to decide when you had to go

Ive been to party's too and seen the walls close in

Everything grey

I still have a brush

But you heard the devil callin ya

He was always singing songs

Ripping his heart out on stage and showing it to us

In awe of the spectacle

In awe of his truth

My letter will be to : 'Gabriel' ... Or, has been ... was... may still be ... I was in Brockton, Ma. that day ... on way back from delivering some lame lawyer's mail to the post office (whom I slaved for ... for $7.00 bucks an hour) back then, I didn't know any better ... I got back in the car and heard it on the radio ... started crying my eyes out. I put in Pearl Jam - rear view mirror ... on way back to work ... strange, the moments we record ... anyway, you're an awesome poet.

I guess Kurt was always searching for the true 'Nirvana', but it was elusive. Great tribute Eric.

Thanks Robert, truly one of the great philosophers with a guitar. True artist.

Eric, I had written a song in honor of Cobain, so I share your appreciation of his art. Well written, as per usual, lol, and nicely "in tribute." Also, good to see such proclivity of production; hard work is its own reward. Thanks for an understated bio; some things sure do speak for themselves. As an aside, Greek philosophy discovered that artists, of whatever genre, always spoke truth, just part of the art, kind of "colateral," if you will. Peace, my friend.

It's great to see how beautifully who have crafted those words into a poem. A great honour to Kurt Cobain.

      Thanks for this lovely poem.

      Thumbs up!
