Love's Memory

Updated on November 18, 2014
Source

By: Wayne Brown

They say everything has a time and place

Water will find its level; air finds its own space

Puzzles are solved as each piece finds interlock

Time conquers everything; the old ticking clock

No so with you and I, the distance far too great

Maybe I showed up too early, maybe a day too late

Whatever the reason, love was nowhere to be found

Not in our first kiss or embrace, nowhere did it abound

They say wanting is not enough if wanting is only one

So it is with love; either you are in it or you’re done

As much as I wanted it; it was not for only me to say

Love takes two; you never wanted to feel that way

They say the truth is hard to face; better to just hide

When love is lost, parts are missing along with pride

The reality comes through like lightning from a storm

Cold, hard truth everywhere; no place to feel warm

Fate has its moments and direction follows it so

Maybe fate had a hand in why our love didn’t grow

Whatever it was the equation just did not compute

It is love or it’s not; the facts one cannot refute

The ache and heartfelt pain diminishes along with time

But the memories are always there burned into my mind

It seems we were only sailing ships passing in the night

Though I was in love, for you, the choice was never right

They say that memories die slow and fade away with time

I hope that’s not really true as I want to hang on to mine

For in the reality of you and I, love was never really true

But in my memory, you loved me and I so much loved you

@Gypsy Rose Lee...Like cows to water, we always return for just one more sip. Thanks much, GRL! WB

@Ardie...More so that not. I guess that is the part that makes it so difficult for so many...timing. Thanks much. WB

Beautiful poem - and sad. Yet it seems to be common for love to be one sided.

fpherj48...If I gained a tear from the verse then it had its intended purpose I suppose. Sometimes it is better that we do not get what we think we desire. Thanks much. WB

Excuse me, but I must get this knife from my heart.....unrequited love.....the pain. So sad, Wayne...I could cry for him.

@Diana Lee...If I can raise some "almost tears" then I had the right effect with this one. Thanks for the good vote! WB

@Deborah Brooks...Yes, most of us do learn the hard way in the game of love I suppose. Maybe all for the best. Thanks much. WB

@MartieCoetser...I know what you mean, Martie. Between writing and replying to my comments, everything else is a challenge. Stop by when you have writer's block! LOL! Thanks. WB

@Pamela99...I suppose Fate knows better what we need and when we need it. It all worked out for me over the long haul but at that moment, it seemed a bit unfair. Thanks. WB

@writer20...Time is an excellent healer but we must be patient in order for it to work. I also found that divesting oneself of those emotions helps as well. Thanks much. WB

Lost love does hurt so much. Your poem is beautiful and full of your emotions. Time does heal but it takes loads of time.

      Vote up and awesome, Joyce.

Wayne, you beautifully put into words all those feelings we experience when a love is lost. Maybe it wasn't meant to be or maybe the timing is wrong, but the reason doesn't matter much,as the pain is the part that takes time. The song was an excellent choice for this beautiful poetry.

Wayne, this is so beautiful! You've said it all. Oh, and the music provides the perfect atmosphere.

      I wonder who cannot relate?

I would so love to spend some time in your corner, catching up with all your writings, but Time is not my friend... or perhaps I just have too many balls in the air.

Voted up, beautiful-written and touching :)

@thebluestar...My experience left me feeling left behind until the tables were reversed in a later relationship which I ended before I hurt someone too much. We do learn from these experiences and over the course of it all, things worked out for me probably the way they were supposed to in the end. Fate just had to take charge. Thanks for the good words! WB

Wayne, hunnie, you write so soulfully about lost love, or love denied. Either way, I can fully relate to it. Life takes us on many journeys, and for myself, I am to often the one left behind with a broken heart. You know what, I wouldn't have it any other way.? Through pain we learn to survive and become a much stronger person. We also learn how to treat other people, so as not to leave them in pain. This poem is very deep and not your usual style, but I love it none the less. You are the "grand uncle" of allowing your emotions to guide your words. Respect, hunnie. Net. :)

@rahul0324...That was my favorite verse as well. So glad you liked it. WB

@breakfastpop...I drew inspiration from the song and from a long ago experience. Thanks much. WB

@teaches12345...At the time, I too was very sad. It was a learning experience. Life is sometimes out of synch and you always wonder how things might have been different if it was in synch at the time. Fate has a way of intervening which brings us disappointment in the moment. Thanks much! WB

@poet83...True emotion can bring forth the feel and the words. The song was my initial inspiration as it brought forth many memories for me. WB

@drbj...Never Doc! I wish I could write a song like I included with this verse...a real beauty! Thanks much. WB

This piece is incredible! The rhymes are very pleasant and the feel of the poem is so deep in love. I've felt these feelings, too, so it's easy to relate. Wonderful write! Voted up and beautiful!
