Lady Luck Ignores Me

By Tony DeLorger © 2011

Eventually I fold,

not willing to risk my pot,

my hand dealt below the belt,

my prediction often not.

I fall to the possibility,

that God will bless my plot,

but consistently I’m been the loser,

and sacrificed my lot.

I’ve never been a gambler,

the risk of luck I entice,

only to be a laughing-stock,

who sadly paid the price.

My wishful thinking drove me,

to lengths I’d not already gone,

and casually lost my shirt in lot

where sunshine never shone.

I accept now without reservation,

that luck has passed me by,

and for every prize I wish for,

it’s work not compromise.

So, unwilling to give up happy ends,

I work and plot my course,

searching for recognition,

not luck or false applause.

So far it’s all been difficult,

the results right now have shown,

that Lady Luck’s still welcome

but in winning I am known.

Very nice description of the 'game'. This reminds me of the hub I wrote called: The gambler. If you don't mind, I am going to link my hub with this one. It would be a nice addition.

Thanks dallaswriter. Winners are rare in gambling, when it's all totalled. Thanks for the comment.

Oh great Hub Tony! My dad use to gamble pretty heavy, risking it all from time to time. (hence the reason my mother finally left him). But Lady Luck gave him a few nice jackpots in his time, so only he would know if he came out a winner. Well written, nice clean lines... :)
