Land and Sea

The spirits of land and sea are guided by the moon and sun. They are forever in balance and battling. Fighting for space, the land moves throughout the ocean. Fighting for power, the sea beats the land and takes away from it. Without this war between the land and sea, the world would cease to be in balance.

One day, long ago, the spirits got tired of their battle, they both gave up the fight thinking no one cared anyway. On this day, the land stopped moving, the ground turned to dust and all its creatures starved and went thirsty. On this day, the sea became dormant and its creatures could not move and suffocated.

The spirits stopped giving life and their inhabitants suffered. The animals were confused and asked for help from the sun and moon, they didn't know what was happening, why they were dying.

The sun and moon scolded the spirits of land and sea, explaining that their battle is not useless, so many living things depended on the spirits' efforts.

The moon showed the sea spirit each and every living thing that depended on the sea's fight for power. The spirit grew with love for each and every living thing within the sea's depths.

The sun showed the land spirit each and every living thing that depended on the land's fight for space. The spirit became warm and quivered with the love it had for each and every living thing that had a place on its surface.

They realized they didn't need anyone to show gratitude for their efforts, the continuation of the balance of life and the love the spirits had for every living thing were reason enough to keep fighting.

Unfortunately, some animals and plants were lost before the spirits realized their mistake and they became extinct. But more animals and plants grew and prospered in life from that point on.

As a reminder of their mistake, the moon and sun continuously show the sea and land spirits all the living things that depend on their efforts. And the sea grows and the land becomes warm and quivers with love.

I love this Hub, both for it's pure emotion, concerning both the painting and the writing, and it's metaphoric honesty. This was a beautiful Hub, nice job.
