Last Moments of Summer

Updated on April 3, 2012
Source

Moist warm wind

moving last moments

of summer.

A busy evening hour

on the street

People out in

the front yards

to catch a

breath of air,

I open all the

windows wide

to get a flow

going

the muggy air

is heavy hardly moves

is like being

immersed in a tub

of warm water.

I drift around the

yard with a hose

filling buckets

for the cats to drink

dusk covers

me like a cloak.

Beautiful in every way. I particularly loved the Summer Wind song. You KNOW how I'm fond of music. Smiles and Hugs. Peg

Thank you oceansnsunsets, happy you enjoyed. Thanks for reminding me. I could use a hit of summer right now, I should read my own Hubs!

Hello Snakeslane, thanks for sharing these "Last Moments of Summer" with us. I am always especially aware of the Summer leaving, as the Fall moves in. That is a very special time, perhaps one of my favorite times of year.

Enjoyed the hub and photo, the words and picture are nice. :)

Derdriu, your presence today at so many of my Hubs has given me such a lift, when you decide to 'follow' you are not kidding around, I really appreciate you taking the time to visit, and leave such insightful comments.

Snakeslane, What an effective coordination of illustrative photo with seasonal chores to convey the close of a summer well spent! In particular, I like the images of flow, such as of the air, the water and the wind.

      Thank you for sharing, etc.,

      Derdriu

Mon ami epigramman man, there were so many conversations going on five weeks ago when you left this great comment that I somehow missed thanking you at the time, but I will thank you now, I really appreciate your taking the time to read this poem.

Thank you for that lovely comment anglnwu. I am so glad you brought me back here because I see I have comments that I missed, I'm glad this poem is here to remind me because I've now totally forgotten what summer feels like.

I always have a hard time letting summer go. Your poem reads like Carl Sandburg--lovely image of a typical summer evening. Rated up.

Usually it does not snow in Kathmandu, but there will be heavy snowfall in the outskirts when temperature goes down.

I hope you take some pictures Vinaya. Does it snow there in Kathmandu?

Well snakeslane, in few weeks time winter will be little hostile in Nepal because 75 percent of the country's land is mountain.

Hello Vinaya Ghimire, I am happy to hear you are basking in warm sun, that sounds nice. It's cold here. Big storms blow in, lots of rain and wind.

      Days, weeks, months

strut away like a gust of wind

      Yesterday was the summer

      And today it is winter

I'm basking in the warm sun.

Last Moments of Summer, nicely told in this poem. Our end of summer was strange in England - we had a burst of heat and sun then it suddenly turned colder. Still the occasional nice bright day for walking.

Thank you Russ Baleson, this summer we had no summer, cold and rain almost all the way through except for a few nice days here and there, but suddenly in September summer finally hit with a finale that was bitter sweet. Appreciate you reading (aloud!) and commenting.

Hi Snakeslane, I really like this. My end of Summer experience is different to yours. Living in the UK, I love the Autumn but do not look forward to the winter ahead. I do all I can to make the most of Summer and 'at the end of Summer' have many emotions which I have yet to express in poetry. I read yours aloud and enjoyed the movement and pictures it painted. I am coincidentally a HUGE fan of Madeleine Peyroux. Thank you for this. Russ

Sankeslane--It is over, summer, all the days at the beach with the kids. This summer was a memory that I will cherish forever and your poem was the soft hands and kiss goodnight that this summer deserves.

No paintings are not all Pendergast, must do my research!

Well thankyou! The paintings are all Maurice Pendergast. darn now I have to go and check the spelling, but that is my photo, just discovered how to add the video (while visiting at the Emerald Wells Cafe) got into discussion there and Becky Katz bless her heart explained to me in poets language how to do that.
