"Lasting Love of a Mother" by Rolly A. Chabot

Updated on May 13, 2013

Welcome

We are fast approaching the time of year when one day is set aside to honour Moms all over the world. Some are still with us and some have passed on. Some of us are caught in the place where Mom is still with us and yet struggles with memory.

No matter where you find yourself, my prayer for you is that you find comfort and peace. Gather around for a while and lets take the time to think of our Mom's and what they have given to us unselfishly.

If you are a Mom as I know many of you are I would like to thank you for being there for each of your children and nurturing the way that you have over the many years. You are all precious and may your day be filled with much love and understanding.... Above all else know that you are dearly loved.

My Mom

As some of you know this is my Mother. She has just turned 92 and is still with us. We are blessed even though she is caught up in her own world. Mom has not known me for a few years now but the love is still there in her tender touch, in her eyes and in her smile. Do I miss her?

Yes of course I do. Mom was a rock in her time, she saw many things in her life that brought pain and yet she forged ahead. The legacy she left in each one of her four children was too never give up. To face the battle no matter the odds. If you believed in yourself you could accomplish anything and she was a living testimony to accomplishments.

At the age of 75 Mom decided she wanted to become a painter. All of us children's homes are blessed with some of her creations. I have been called to carry the torch and learn the craft now as I was the one who got all of Moms painting supplies. Can I paint like Mom, yes if I set my mind too it.

You are and were loved.

For those who find this to be a lonely time my prayer for you is you find peace and comfort in knowing that you were loved before your loss and are still loved today. Many of you have families of your own, some have grandchildren. To you I say thank you for giving the way that you have. It is through their teaching that you have become who you are today.

I do believe our mothers whether they are with us or not live with in us. I mentioned today to a friend who is struggling to take the time to stop and look into the mirror and find her Mom. Trust me she is there, she is in your features, your eyes, your ways and especially in the way that you love. Be still and listen to the many gifts she left you with, they are many.

Think of the sacrifices that you have made for your children. Think of the teachings you have instilled into them and now what you are teaching the grandchildren. Yes your mother is still with you today. Take comfort knowing she is.

For Moms All Over

In closing I would like to thank each of you for what you have given to your families. You are very special and you are dearly appreciated. Many of you write from the heart and it shows in your words.

Mothers Day comes around but once a year according to the calendars of the world but not in my calendar. It should be each and everyday. Why would we just take a day to say I love you when we can do each and every day.

To all of you mothers, please accept this small flower as a gift of love and respect for you. Stop and study it and look at its perfect design, flowing lines and soft colours. It speaks of each of you. Thank you for who you are... know that you are dearly loved.

      Dear Rolly ~

You have given we mothers a beautiful and touching gift. Thank you. Mothers Day is difficult for me. Memories of my son Todd who lost his life to cancer, flood my mind and drown the happiness and joy I've experienced being a mother to three.

As I read through this lovely tribute to your own mother, I came across one particular part that brings peace and understanding : "Trust me she is there, she is in your features, your eyes, your ways and especially in the way that you love. Be still and listen to the many gifts she left you with, they are many." Even 'tho this is meant for mothers, I find that if I somehow translate these words to fit my own loss of my son...it helps. Thank you dear friend for your sweetness and for your capacity to empathize.

You are indeed a treasure and your own mother is smiling with love and pride.

      Dearest Rolly,

Thank you for this beautiful hub and the lovely flower! You are blessed to still have your mother despite the dementia. I miss my mother, who went on to be with the Lord just this past Christmas. She had just turned 84 and we celebrated her birthday with her, and then four days later she was gone. I can honestly say she is the sweetest, strongest and most beautiful person I have ever known in my lifetime and probably ever will know.

In my lifetime, I never heard her say one ill word against any person ever! She was a gentle and quiet spirit.

Thank you for the beautiful tribute to your mother and all mothers. I love being a mother and grandmother too. I know I am very blessed, and will get to see my mother again one day.

      Voted up ++++ and sharing

God bless you. In His Love, Faith Reaper

Hi Deb... So sorry to hear that you have lost your Mom. It takes time to get over our loss. I know for me it was my Dad in 2005 and I think of him each day and do miss him terribly.

I do pray that you have comfort through Him, your own children and grandchildren.

Hi Vocalcoach ... what a touching part of your life you have shared with us and my heart goes out to you for your loss. Yes I do believe those few words can apply to anyone whom has suffered a loss.

I suppose when I read them again I am reminded of my Dad in many ways. I can see him in myself every once in a while and it is comforting knowing he has left me with something so precious as a part of himself...

Hugs and Blessings to you my dear friend

Rolly, this is such a beautiful tribute to mothers. I like the advice you gave your friend - to look inside and see her mother there. I am fortunate to still have my mother with me. And I agree with you - love should be shown and declared every day. Each time I talk to my mom I end the conversation with "I love you, Mom".

Without our mothers, where would we be today?

I know your Momma's amazing legacy will live on, especially in your painting. You are beautiful for your love and devotion to her.

So wonderful to meet you...have a peaceful weekend, Maria

I missed this lovely tribute to your mom and to all the moms out there(me included). Sorry that she's now caught up in her own world. That reminded me of the book "The Notebook" by Nicholas Sparks. What a beautiful story. Rest assured of her love through her tender loving touch and smiles.

Thank you Rolly for this very delightful Saturday afternoon read. Keep well.

      Love from the sky~
