committed was Life in imprisonment otherwise death by hanging.

“Why don’t you want a Lawyer to represent you?”
“What benefit will it be for me if the state provide a lawyer for me since i do not have the money to afford a personal one myself?”
“They are all hypocrites” he continued. “I will represent myself, there is no justice in this land and it is a crime only when they call it a crime, they can sentence me to death and even come and kill me right now, i have not known happiness; Jude, this prison is my house and the Youth center was my church and school, my fellow inmates are the loved ones and my inspiration is derived from all the injustice most of us here face in this land, i have not known peace and had no love, no mother and father, Jude, please, let us not talk about this for now.”
“Okay Lawrence but all the best tomorrow though i know that you might not come back here but will be transferred to BLOCK D, it was a pleasure serving with you, so i will never forget you; someday we will meet in hell or heaven.”
December 17th 2009.
The court proceedings was observed and everyone was seated, the Investigating Officer was there and all evidence tendered.
“Why is there no Lawyer for the accused?” inquired the Judge.
“My Lord, apparently, the accused refused all the offers given to him for a Lawyer, he insisted that he will represent himself and had never been co-operative with both the state and human right Lawyers.”
Remember that you are under Oath
you swear to tell this court the truth and nothing but the truth”
“I swear to tell this court the truth and nothing but the truth”
“You the accused on the 11th day of August 2001,fatally stabbed the deceased five times with the intention to create bodily damage and subsequently the injury the deceased sustained during your attack led to his death, do you have anything to say before Judgment is pronounced”.
“Your Lordship, this court said that i committed a crime, i was only ten years old when this happened, my parents divorced when i was just five years old, my elder siblings, Irene and Linda were 7 and 12 years old respectively, our mother got married to another man and he didn’t want us, our father was not concerned about us, his business was his sole concern but thanks to aunty Grace who took the three of us into her own house.
Four years without our parents was hell, i was only five but i understood why Linda cried every night and why Irene had to go to the super market every morning before going to school. One day, our father showed up and said that he wanted to take us because he bought a big house, we were happy to join him. Things were okay for some time until we all realized that it was even much better to live in a mess with aunty than in an unknown paradise with a man who became a terror to our lives.”
father will rob oil on your skin and flog you with an electric wire; he abused
us in every way. One day, i heard Irene screaming in the room and ran into the
room to know what was wrong with her but only to see our father having sex with
her. I was 10years but i knew that he was doing the wrong thing.
We all hated him and all wanted to run away from home, there was never a week without a rival gang shooting at our house, our father was a drug dealer and i know that he is answerable to the deaths of so many people, he was notorious and so many people feared him.
The way the Law treat people like our father is questionable, i know that there are so many people like him, many of them when caught get less sentences, some pay off their freedom while some enjoy behind the bars for some time at the expense of innocent citizens who contribute to their upkeep
One day i overheard my father telling Pedro his friend that “there are so many luxurious prisons in the world.”
Tell me if it is lawful to live with a man like my father.
During my days of incarceration in the Youth centre, Linda came visiting one day and informed me that Irene was sick, she tested positive to HIV virus, our father gave her the virus, Linda told me that she in turn was subsequently raped and abused by our father, she even had abortion twice and she also have the virus. She could not look at my face
incident that led to the event of that day was not my fault, he grabbed me that
morning because he claimed that i did not washed his car properly, beat me with
a rod and later placed a knife on my throat and promised to slit it, he asked
me to say my last prayer before i die.
Thanks for the heroism of Mr Daniel our neighbour, who intervened and rescued me, it was during their struggle for the knife that i picked it, watching my father pick up a brick stone to smash Daniel while he lay helpless on the ground nursing a head booth injury to his nostril and eyes was uncalled for.
I had to save him from that monster so that was when I stabbed my father. I stabbed him for his miseries but i didn’t intend to kill him though i am ready to pay any prize after all, my life has been a total turmoil from birth, so facing the hangs man will please my heart and ease all my pains.
There was total silence in the courtroom; one can hear a pin drop then the prosecutor stood up and had brief chat with the Judge. The judge then hit her gavel.
This court find Mr Lawrence Brown not guilty, he is therefore, awarded the sum of five hundred thousand Dollars in damages by the state for unlawful detention

When I find myself in times of trouble

Speaking words of wisdom, let it be.
And in my hour of darkness

Whisper words of wisdom, let it be.........
