Left Bleeding By Love

Updated on February 23, 2015

He could still feel

that evil thorn

that had pierced his heart

he rued the day

that he had let love start

hurt and wounded

left bleeding by love

he ranted and he raved

during the nights

when memories of her

disturbed his sleep

what he had learned

he’d never forget

not for a million years

and he wondered

if a fool such as he

would really ever love again

lessons learned about love

love hurts

love wounds

love smarts

love squeezes the life from the heart

love causes tears to fall

in the dark of the night

love becomes an illusion

an obsession

it wraps itself about the heart

and all other thought is gone

just to be with the one

that the heart aches for

to feel the passion

right from the start

drifting from day to day

with memories that still burned

in his eyes wherever he looked

the face, the smile

the girl he still loved

the one who had taken it all

for him life had ended

the day love had died

but he was still breathing

his heart still beating

he hoped the day would come

when he could break the chains

of faithless love

that there would come

a bright and shiny new tomorrow

and a new love would find him

before the sun set

on another day

Oh, yes: love hurts, but it is better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all.

      Voted UP.

Was that for any of them really a "love?"

Your beautiful poem gives me an impression:

...Left bleeding by deceitful, an assumed, he believed is love. A very hard lesson, an eye opening lesson which might help him to recognized true love, since LOVE never changes . Fraudulent "love'" has murderous characteristic...

      Voted beautiful.

"There must needs be opposition in all things."

Love doesn't have "Off" and "On" switches, but lost love has a Dimmer switch. He will survive, unless he does something foolish.

I love that your broken-hearted man has hope that he'll find love again. Sad tale with a positive perspective. Nice, Rasma!
