Life's Trodden Path

Updated on January 11, 2017

The Fortune Teller

A fortune teller once said,

"Before the time you are dead,

a million thoughts and more,

will transit through brain's door.

Be sure you know

where you want to go.

Be willing to explore."

Teacher Teacher

Teacher! Teacher!

Here am I.

My parents lent me one more time.

Come help me see and know.

Those crucial things

my future brings,

so I know where to go.

I'm here to learn to listen,

to sort things false and true.

Just like an empty pitcher

my contents depend on you.

Life's Trodden Path

Some things there are

that carry us far

along life's trodden path.

Tried and true

will simply do

incurring no one's wrath.

But then there are

those gazing a star

well trained in exotic math.

It's they who hold

to chances bold

and make our future path.

We all do well

to learn and spell

those needs of day-to-day.

Somehow I think

that when we shrink

those others will lead the way.

For whom does this bell toll?

Do we realize our future depends on what happens in simple buildings such as this?

AliciaC - Poetry can do many things. I think it is still underrated as an art form. These are never going to be classics, but they can serve a purpose, and that is good enough.

Your poetic words speak the truth. I also stick with the knowledge that to keep heading down life's path you should never stop learning. I know that I keep an open mind and discover many a new thing each day. What came to mind for some reason was that game show Let's Make a Deal - which door do you choose? I guess in life there are many invisible doors we just have to hope we always make the right choice.

Gypsy Rose Lee - Learning is the key to knowledge, and knowledge is the key to making the best choice possible. You are surely on the right track. Happy New Year!

I will bet you remember one or more teachers who contributed to who you are today. What made them different? Was it skill or empathy? They knew you before you really knew yourself, and helped you along life's path. Tell them so, if you still can.
