by Alice Olsen

Life took away his strength,

Life took away his health,

Life took away the notion,

Of how he saw himself.

And in the end the only thing,

Left for him to see,

Was love, a great big heart full,

For friends and family.

He passed beyond the border,

He passed into the night,

He passed out of this world,

Until he found the light.

Love showed the way for him to go,

A path so straight and true,

Letting go of all that was,

To find a life brand new.

He wondered why he’d struggled,

Now that he was free,

Love was the only thing he took,

And what he left for me.
