Like Poetry?

Poetry in Music - The Song of the Golden Dragon

Estas Tonne

I love the melody and power in his music. I chose this clip because you can see his passion as he plays. Some can even feel the part of his soul that pours thru the cords of his guitar. You can see his energy thru the expressions on his face and the movement of his body. With the merging of his passions, emotions, and the sounds of his guitar he makes poetry.

I wish he made CD's along with MP3's. I like tangibles.

Poetry in movement - Rosana

Rosana Monteiro

Meet my beautiful friend Rosana. Her blend of music, strength, power, balance, and skill creates poetry and changes something that for so many years carried a stigma. Her passions obliterate the once raunchy reputation surrounding the medium that she chooses to work with and all that is left is art and poetry... and you can say it, she is one bad-ass powerhouse of a woman! I thought it too when I first saw it.

Thoughts on Poetry

Jodah's Thoughts : http://jodah.hubpages.com/hub/To-Be-Or-Not-To-Be-A-Poet

4/8/2014

Defining poetry to me is as simple as defining the fabric that makes up the universe. Poetry is this powerful, beautiful thing that is not bound by any rules and is not confined by human logic. Poetry is rhythmic and emotional. It is the language which my soul chooses to speak. It pierces thru me. I read it in works of word, I see it in works of art, I feel it in dance, I hear it in music. It is expression of all forms. It is a part of everything in life and life is just poetry in one of its many forms.

Because of how I define poetry, I do not believe that there is a being in existence that is not touched by it. A person that truly does not like poetry is a work of fiction. It is not possible. Maybe this person does not like rhymes or has no use for sonnets but to dislike poetry in all of its forms is an impossibility. Poetry is passion and emotion. A person who claims to dislike poetry would have to dislike stories, movies, music, human interaction, nature, art, light, science, emotion, feeling etc. This person would have to be void of any human emotion and void of expression. They could not believe in love or hate or the miracle of life.
To explain...
Movies - Movies have all started as written works. Some are imaginative. They take you to worlds unseen and places unknown. Someone dedicated their mind and passion to creating this work. They created a villain or tragedy that would evoke your feelings and reactions. You want to see the right prevail even when what is right goes against the rules we play by. You want to see the war won, the love story play out, the dark horror story unfold. Poetry is word play, a balance of words and emotion. It is methodical and scientific. Someone used it to get your reaction.
Emotion - Without poetry you would not express fear, hurt, love, joy, or pain. You would have no need to go over the argument you are going to make before you make it because it wouldn't matter enough to you to test the strength of your words or expression. Many people make a connection between poetry and love. Some of them dismiss poetry as sappy because of it. Ironically, the pieces I have written that I believe are most powerful and can be felt more vividly are fueled by aggression and anger. The rage and raw beauty of heated energy in word is amazing. If you have ever wanted to use words in a battle to prove your position or just to intimidate your opponent than you can not claim to dislike poetry because you are using it. Having said that, I can't help but think of Eminem and his poetic rants disguised as rap.
Music - besides the obvious use of lyrics in music, there is the composer of music itself. The tying of different notes to produce sounds that will pull your heart strings, inspire you, make you sad, make you smile, bring you to battle, build you up, and break you down. Poetic.
Dance - The interpretation of music. Poetry in movement.
Art - The use of color and light thru different mediums to tell a story, deliver a message, or evoke emotion. Poetry.

Besides things that can be seen or heard, poetry exists in things that can be felt. Poetry inspired a deaf, mute girl to persevere and create and in turn her story became poetry, can you guess who in history she was?

Poetry can be used to assemble and disassemble every person, every sound, every feeling, every living thing, the dead, the magical, the mystical, the seen, the unseen, the explained, and the unexplained. It talks of magic and tells of life in all of its stages, in all of its forms. It is as much a part of us as the skin that surrounds us and is used as often as our eyes are. There are some that can say they don't like this style of poetry or that but I do not believe that there exist a person who does not like poetry in all of its forms.

... and this is the reason that most everything I write is placed under the category of Poetry. This is also the reason that I scour the internet for images and music to pair with my writing. It all combines to make poetry.

Mom, you said it all!! Poetry is life, if one hates poetry one hates life. I find poetry in everything, like you, the things that moves me the most tends to be love, anger and injustice. Nature can be overwhelmingly beautiful, a piece of music can move me to tears. Like poetry? I love it. :)

Great write from a true poet.

Thank you so much for writing this Moms. I have been trying to spread the same message during Poetry Month. Please check my similar hub, 'To Be Or Not To Be- a poet' . I have even added a link to this hub there, I hope you don't mind, and would be honored if you wanted to do the same. It will help get the message across. I even started a forum topic called 'Poet of the Month' to try and get HP to acknowledge poetry more, because our hubs aren't even considered for HOTD, Editors Choice and the HubPot challenge. Loved this and the videos, voted up.
