Like a Candle in the Wind

Updated on January 7, 2012

Red, the power of love

For you.

For You

Hub Buddies, a friend who is very dear to me, is in pain just now. She knows that I love her dearly, but what kind of friend would I be if I couldn't chase away her pain?

The world is really your oyster, look out of the window and what do you see? My friend, I will always be a thorn in your side until I see you fly, because you deserve too, like no other. Go ahead and shout now, because I have put this in print. You are loved more than you appreciate and I am going nowhere unless we go hand in hand, together. XX

For the female light in my life.

She was a candle in the wind,

just flickering in the breeze.

Strong and sensual were her traits,

but from dampened spirits she needed saved.

Beautiful red base, the wax lyrical is passing in time,

she knows I care, and from the heart I hear her cry.

I am me, me is I, so why can I not stop

this deliberate waste of my time.

She cries for love, and at times for laughter too

But how many memories does she have to cry,

before she rids herself of you?

Temptation is on every corner,

deprivation, she thinks she is doomed to have.

Let her shout and scream and fight,

for she knows the soul that she is born to love.

I am me, me is I, so why can I not stop

this deliberate waste of my time.

Oh yes, friends they come and they go,

and family always wants there say.

But who are they to pressurise her?

She hates living her life this way.

What she needs now , is a tribute to come and stay.

I am me, me is I, so why can I not stop

this deliberate waste of my time.

My friend, she thinks she knows best,

and interfere she does.

But my welfare is laid open on her chest,

and she holds me like no other friend could.

All I need now is inner strength to see me through.

I am me, me is I, so why can I not stop

this deliberate waste of my time.

Trials and tribulations are there to make her stronger

but how much of this pain, she can take it no longer?

I wipe her beautiful eyes with the soft white of a dandelion clock,

because tomorrow she won’t look back,

and will blossom and fly above the pain,

that keeps her desires locked in stone,

set free, like the flickering flame of life and love.

Who is she, she is who I love,

my friend, for whom I would stop traffic if I could.

Go and fly little butterfly,

your wings are no longer cropped.

Freedom is through your window, open your eyes and look.

You know who you are my dearest friend, and my love for you blossomed because of your love and praise for me.

This poem is written from me to you and from you to me, as we have been together in the same dismal place alone, and together.

I have to agree with Rosemay: “You are the wind beneath her wings…” This beautiful tribute is what friendship is all about. It exists not out of duty, but is born of love and compassion…especially, when it is needed most. This is what makes humanity such as yours so precious. Thank you. Up and beautiful!

      Annette, what a lovely refrain:

"I am me, me is I, so why can I not stop

this deliberate waste of my time."

One can interpret this poem of yours in many ways. I've read this as "speaking to Self", because I am after all my own best friend. I am me and me is I. But one can read this also as a poem dedicated to another person in unbearable circumstances. And this is exactly what makes this poem of yours a hit. Many in different circumstances can identify and relate.

      Thumbs up!

      "Friendship is a sheltering tree."

      Dearest Annette,

I know all too well, first hand 'from our Three Muskateer experiences' how you can stop traffic! This tribute to true and empathic friendship touches me to the core. It is what we all dream of when we are feeling at our very lowest, to have a friend like you, who loves us when we are both pretty and ugly, strong and weak, flippant and insecure, really 'all that'....

Thanks for always being that friend to me and to everyone who is blessed to call you 'friend'! Voted UP & Beautiful.

      Much love, Maria

      Morning Annette.

Lovely words to your friend in need of your comfort. Your words to her would sound like music I'm quite sure.

Hope all is well and I would say to her you are really "The Blue Star".

      Take care.

      Irish,

I'm sorry your friend is in a struggle. And, I'm sure it's a dire one. You're not the sort to cast words carelessly.

Because you know her and care for her, your friends here will care as well.

I'll keep her in my prayers.

Hi Vinaya my wise friend. You are so correct. We can not assume to feel the pain of our loved ones, but we can support and nurture until the pain makes sense. Thank you hunnie, for the lovely comment. xx

Though we can feel empathy for our friends, we cannot really live through the same suffering he/she is going through. However, we can sit abreast friends and show our friends love and concern.

You are a wonderful person to compose such a beautiful poem.
