Little human... A dark poem

Updated on May 21, 2014
Little human
Little human | Source

Be careful what you wish for little human

There are many ears listening in the dark

Hidden things you won’t find amusing

All ready to place their mark

Be careful what you whisper when alone

When desires tempt your mind

And you are far from the safety of home

Strangers are not generally kind

Don’t look too deep into the shadows

You won’t like what you see

In the dark reality quickly shatters

so leave it all be

Don’t look for voices hidden from sight

Their pretty promises are easily spoken

In the deep dark of the night

And so easily broken

Turn away from the forbidden path

It is denied for a reason

Don’t risk the unseen wrath

There are worse things than demons

Turn away little human before it’s too late

This is no place for you

Dark desires lead to dark fates

In life there is no redo

Stay safe in the brightness of day

Where everything is as it seems

Don’t rush to lose your way

In a tangle of dark dreams

Stay safe far from the touch of darkness

Once marked there is no escape

And the gift of never-ending madness

Is always waiting to devastate

demons | Source

Be warned little human of your dark dreams

That may just turn into nightmares

Filled with your own horrific screams

Hell has been known to share

Be warned for the very last time

Stay away from the seductive darkness

Avoid our touch so sublime

Least your soul they strip and ravish

Be careful what you wish little human

We are waiting in the dark

Demons evil and gruesome

Waiting to tear you apart.

this poem in one form or another has always been with me, that commanding tone has always been somewhere in my mind in many various forms (indeed in high school i was sent to counselling as i had written a whole series that disturbed my teacher way more then me)

I am glad that it struck a cord with you, thanks so much for taking the time to read it, its always a thrill when others like your work

my father once asked me why i write such "dark stuff" and at the time i didn't have an answer for him. i do now...

as alluring as the dark is, as wonderful as the feeling of freedom is when we break through taboos, we can often lose ourselves and without an understanding of the dark, (be it drugs, sex or deep rooted low self esteem) it can be hard to find a way back to the light.

after all the brothers grimm did the same thing, dark fairy tales full of warnings about real life weaved into childrens tales warning them of the dangers of the really real world.

I am so glad that you liked this... thank you!

that is quite true that our real character is the one that is always around even when others are not, I love the fact that we as humans have so many complex layers that often we can grow and change into better versions then we all ready are, or fall down the darker winding paths of our own natures ... I am so glad that you liked this creepy poem of mine, it has been with me for a while and it was good to be able to find a home for it :)

A whole story crept through your dark poem. Great imagery in your words and the temptation and the danger were palpable. I liked the commanding narrative voice as well.

      I enjoyed reading. :)

Very useful warning with possible deeper meaning. Good lines too. Thank you.

My first thoughts were of something someone once told me: true character is possessing it even when no one is watching and all alone. But, then you went much darker than that. Quite creepy, yet gripping. Very well done!

there really is a balance between light and dark, but often is too easy to step over the line and go too far without even realizing it :)

I am so glad that you liked this poem of mine, "Little human" should indeed heed the warning... but so often as we know they wont, too lost in the excitement of danger to believe they have stepped that far from the light :)

thanks so much for your comment and the votes up

      always exploring

You know how much I enjoy my dark and scary :)

but i do strongly believe that we are treating our children with kids gloves these days, not wanting to upset them or scare them with the same fairy tales that scared us as kids, so we water them down, make them more appealing and somehow more empty. but we are leaving out the fact that there are monsters waiting... after all the wolf in little red riding hood makes a great villain to teach our children not to talk to strangers at the very least... I will get off my soapbox now and simply say i couldn't agree more with you...

thank you so much for reading another of my dark poems I am always happy to see your smiling face appear in my comments section :)

You are quite right, that it can so easily be applied to the dangers of today's internet world... but then most monsters were once designed to make sense of the human monsters around our ancestors so it makes sense that it works for the dark hidden world of the internet and the dangers lurking behind so many well kept secrets

thanks for stopping by and reading my poem, i am so glad that you got something from it :)

demons in the dark and angels in the light, you are quite right in that they both have their own challenges and difficulties, yet the pretty angels have much more trust then the faceless demons of our fear. (there are days i wonder about all that...)

I am so glad that you enjoyed my dark poem with all its dire warnings and consequences, thank you so much !

" turn away from the forbidden path, it is denied for a reason". So true, nighthag. There must be balance in our life, in India, we call this balance as " yoga". Too much obsession of things subtle sometimes makes us insane. This poem rightly cautions us to keep from such temptations but " little human" is too curious to abide by that. A well-written, fantastic and very effective poem. Voted up.

This is dark and scary. I fear for the youth today, so many temptations out there. Another great one nighthag.

I enjoyed reading your poem--a lot of it applies to youth's secrets on the internet.

There is nothing more scary for many people than the darkness of night. It conjurs up all kinds of thoughts in our heads. Brushing with demons at night or angels in the light are both challenging experiences, which one will it be? depends on our flight. Nicely done nighthag, Voted up.

Hello nighthag, I love a scary poem. This is excellent! I could read it many times and still enjoy its darkness. Rhythm and rhyme are just right. Voted up!
